Calzaghe (or Kawasaki as certain commentators call him) is not only one of Britains most successful boxers, he is also one of the most popular fighters of recent times. Inside the ring it is business but outside the ring he maintains the image of an ordinary family man or the kind of bloke you could have a pint with. In a recent interview with a popular weekly lad's mag he declared himself a "pacifist".

The disc opens with his first round knock down of Chris Eubanks in 1997. This is followed by fights with Branko Sobot, Omar Sheika, Richie Woodhall, Mario Veit, Charles Brewer, Tocker Pudwill, Byron Mitchell, Kabery Salem, Evans Ahira and Jeff Lacy. The only fight shown in its entirety is the Lacy fight. All the others are highlights ... Read More:

The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment.

UNDENIABLE FACT.

Throughout the decades of the wonderful world that is wrestling, we've had the best there is, was, and ever will be, a Showstopper, the toughest S.O.B. in the WWE among many more legends with titles that are so true in their own right. But none have ever had the charisma or ability to fire up a crowd as uniquely as The Rock. The Brahma Bull was without doubt one of the greatest to ever step foot in the ring. Like Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Steve Austin, Triple H, Brock Lesnar and John Cena (to name only a few), the Rock had the all greatness, the wrestling ability, the personality, the mike skills, the charisma and the ... At last! a documentary in which the real-life people are just that - people doing their job and not being 'personalities' for the camera. This show demonstrates great filming (how the *!* did they do it??), great leadership and very brave men and women on the Bering Sea. It's just about the only show I make an effort to watch 'live', and at last it's come to the UK on Ch4 too!

Great for watching whilst huddled up indoors with a mug of hot chocolate: makes you realise how your own job is not really that taxing after all...

Yet another minor masterpiece from wunderkind Scorsese, however this movie is somewhat dated. The music is without a doubt 1980s. Who could forget Tom Cruise running the table while "doing the Wearwolves of London." Not an image that leaves my head with any immediacy. The director (have I mentioned its Martin Scorsese yet?) seems to be quite inventive with many different types of camera shots on the pool table... but its almost too much. It seems he pulls all of his tricks and it turns into a dog and pony show.

The Hustler was a little more down to earth. It was more of a drama about alcoholism and self-destruction; where as The Color of Money is more of a fun pool-action and redemption of character film (more akin to Rounders than The Hustler). ... Read More:

After reading negative reviews I was apprehensive about buying this DVD. However, I'm glad I eventually succumbed as it's really enjoyable and a great way of reliving the 2008 Grand Slam in around 2 hours. It contains highlights of the 5 matches with commentary, interviews with the players and footage from the locker room. Gatland and Edwards are interviewed numerous times and Shane Williams gives his perspective and talks us through his tries after each match. A great package!

I only watched this recenty and I really loved this film.....just captures the progression and danger of surfing at the highest level. I am not a surfer and I don't think you really have to be into it to appreciate this film at all...it's shot nicely and the documentary style with interviews makes it flow nicely.

I didn't remember any of the hype around this film, and from watching the first 15 minutes I thought it was a female version of Rocky. Being in the dark meant I appreciated the full impact of this subtle and difficult film. Eastwood is a joy to watch on film, and his motivations and thoughts keep you riveted.

Like his role in Unforgiven, he plays and ambiguous and complex character. Hilary Swank is a bit corny from time to time, but a few moments on the film grab you in the gut, and give you an insight into an extreme attitude to life - the sort of dedication required to be a top class athlete.

I was knocked out - in a good way.

Unlike many standard sporting gaffs DVDs, this cricket compilation is more than just a montage of dropped catches and daft run outs. It's a "top 30" of recent moments as selected by England's Barmy Army that range from the funny (Inzamam collapsing onto his stumps) to more serious, like the Alan Donald vs Michael Atherton duel from Trent Bridge in 1998.

Monty's links to camera show his TV presenting skills are less in line with his bowling ability and more like his fielding, but they aren't too bad. More importantly the talking heads used more frequently are the likes of Simon Hughes, Phil Tuffnel, Derek Pringle and Blowers from TMS who all deliver interesting and witty insights into the clips shown.

Overall: unexpectedly recommended.
