A strong contender for the best ever season of South Park. Almost every episode is very good, with the vast majority being fantastic. I think there are more 'classic' episodes on season 8 than on any other. Simply awesome. Simply buy it!

I have now watched all of Charley Boormans's travel docs, from Long Way Around to the very latest 'By Any Means'. In my opinion, this is by far the best. This is very much a story driven piece - rather than we drive here, then we drive here. In this film we have a personal journey which is equal in intensity to the physical journey from Lisbon to Dakar. NOTE: This is the only one of Charley's docs to have captured the interest of my wife - which is saying something.

I missed the entire Battlestar Glactica oeuvre when it came out (indeed the original series as well) but read so many reviews about the allegorical sophistication of BG, I thought I'd better check it out. The obvious place to start is the 2004 mini-series, assembled on DVD as a three-hour feature (and selling for less than four quid on Amazon as I write). Aficionados claim the series doesn't get into its stride until later, but this was for me an impressive opener. The human species is attacked by the Cylons, a robot-race that comes in two distinctive designs; toaster-on-legs and hot, hot humanoid. I collect this series, and due to space limitations I want the NEWEST box set consisting of TWO SLIM cases containing FOUR DVDs, including one DVD with EXTRA MATERIAL. This reduces the required shelf space to a staggering 1/3!!! as compared to the original edition. The product AMAZON offers as NEW EDITION is an old product from 2002 or earlier containing THREE SLIM cases, one for each of the ordinary DVDs, and the BOX set is therefore 50% thicker. I bought series 1 and 2 in a local store, but series 3 from AMAZON. However, at arrival I was disappointed discovering the Season 3 box set wasn't what I expected! My wife and I are half way through the second series of 'The Sopranos'. We both really enjoyed series one, but have already become a bit bored with series two, since it doesn't seem to take things a great deal further than series one did, and we both agree that we probably will not bother getting further series, even if someone lends them to us - luckily we borrowed series two. I have given this DVD three stars since the acting is good and the stories are okay. I've watched series one of 'The Wire' and 'Oz' and series one and two of 'Deadwood' and 'Rome' and think that all four of these HBO series are better than 'The Sopranos'. This series is amazing, I first watched an episode of River Cottage on Sky, was at home with a friend zapping through numerous channels and landed on this, my friend insisted it was a brilliant TV show and we should watch the episode. My friend is not into cooking that much so it got me interested! Anyhow the stories, the recipes and the adventure got me hooked, i had to buy them. I have watched the two first seasons and i love it, kind of makes me dream of a house in the coutryside, although i guess a lot of aspects of self-sufficiency are not covered he looks at the food side of things with a lot of attention. This is the most explosive first episode of any series, totally shocking start and you are gripped after the first 5 minutes. Jack is really at odds with the government in this one and once again he goes through absolute hell. The end is also just as shocking as the start. To be honest i expected the series to slide a bit after the monumental quality of the first 4 but it didn't, this season is spectacular.

its senior year for the gang and there are lots of decisions to make. things are beginning to go back to what is normal for newport after the shooting at the end of season 2. but its newport beach so it aint gonna say that way for long. in between maing decisions on where to go to college the ryan/marissa rollercoaster starts back up with the usual drama but by the end of the season it comes to it resulotion. some old faces come back to stir up trouble and new ones arrive in newport to do the same. and to top off the season there is a shocking twist that leaves a mark on newport beach forever!!!

not your run of the mill fantasy but realistic. every episode has its own bit of twist. very good series and waiting for others.

A decade or so after seeing this series on TV, I was back in the groove in a matter of seconds, thanks to the dramatic scenery and punchy script. At times the atmosphere is as threatening as the big Lakeland skies but the hotel workers' romps provide plenty of light relief. John Simm is rightly praised for his starring role but Jimmy McGovern's well-crafted characters are done full justice by great casting and performances all round. Chef, Chef's wife, the hotel manageress, the priest, the sister-in-law ... I could go on and on. The humour is black and sardonic, as might be expected from McGovern, but there are opportunities to laugh out loud as various revenge sub-plots unfold.
