Gillian Welch is a an artist that seems to come from another era. Her whole stage persona evokes "poor white trash" from the Appalachian Mountains in the 1930s, or a character from Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath. It is no coincidence that this whole DVD is in black and white. Gillian herself is thin, pale, wears dated floral dresses. She plays an old Gibson acoustic guitar which dates from the the 1960s or, occasionally, and old open back banjo. Her playing partner, David Rawlings, wears plain dark suits and plays an Epiphone Olympia Guitar from the 1930s. That's it. For fans like me of Luke Kelly this DVD is absolutely fantastic. Kelly's voice made the Dubliner's. I only once saw him in concert and will never forget that experience. I was sad that he died so young and I would not be able to see him sing again. For years I have searched to find video of Dubliner's concerts with Luke present but without success. Now my dreams have come true! 19 splendid performances of Luke on one DVD of good audio and video quality, and all in colour. Would have paid a £100 for this.

This is awful.Genuine Italian singers must watch him perform and laugh.Its like watching a gigolo in a Italian holiday resort doing a impression of Engelbert Humperdink.Unless your a female of the species and fall for the looks,you need a bucket to watch this.Ok when your drunk to put on for the comedy value.

I am simply going to say that if you love music you will get this CD/DVD and marvel at the music. This is sublime. If you like prog or folk or god knows what, this is just consummate brilliance. Just enjoy.

I read the reviews for this and knew I'd enjoy it. I have a habit of ovr-hyping things like this, but this film did not dissappoint. This was an excellent film. The interviews with various people are excellent and very insightful, it's beatifully filmed and the soundtrack's perfect. Some of the film's strongest points are: 1) It highlights important areas of african history, some of which are widely unknown 2) It challenges western propaganda surrounding african history (i.e. africans enslaving other africans) 3) It also challenges current views on how we are told to treat the subject of slavery 4) Most importantly, this documentary not only highlights the causes of struggles facing the african peoples of the world, ...
