I came to this DVD as a Linda Ronstadt fan, knowing nothing of Mexican music. I expected to be interested in the variety of Linda's work but instead was enthralled by the whole thing. I shouldn't continue to be amazed by the power, subtlety, ability to convey emotion etc which Linda's voice has but I was. Not only that, the sheer enjoyment Linda, all the musicians, dancers and the audience too show is infectious. "Perfect" has been used by another reviewer of this DVD and I totally agree with that comment. A "must see" for Linda Ronstadt fans and indeed for anyone who wants to see and hear an outstanding singer performing songs she clearly loves.

This is Tony Palmer's short film of Fairport Convention which was made for cinema release. It features the only known contemporary footage of the "Full House" lineup of Thompson, Swarbrick, Pegg, Mattacks and Nicol who play five numbers. These are Various Jigs & Reels, Sir Patrick Spens, Now Be Thankful, Flatback Caper and Jenny's Chickens & The Mason's Apron, which were recorded live on the 5th June 1970 at the Maidstone Fiesta. The film also features two numbers from Matthews Southern Comfort, My Front Pages and Southern Comfort, which are inserted after track three by Fairport. I think these two tracks were probably recorded elsewhere, although that's not made clear. The two bands are introduced by none other than John ... Read More:

I first saw this film as a child and fell totally in love with it, however, I couldn't remember the title and now after searching for so long I have relocated it. It is a beautiful, heart rending film that will live in your memory forever. Wonderfully acted and thoughtfully handled. I love it.

Now I may be from Scotchland, but Scotch music has pretty much passed my by. I'm from an era when too many childhood Hogmanays were spent in the company of Moira Anderson and Andy Stewart, the kind of thing it takes therapy I've never been able to afford, to get over. I tried once. Went to a Runrig gig and everything, only to find myself surrounded by people I normally run a country mile to avoid. These were scary obsessives!
