I'm wondering why no one has mentioned so far that this DVD is nowhere near 85 minutes long: actually this version is under 80 minutes. It does not include the famous Zombie - scenes that French filmmaker Jean Rollin has added afterwards. They are not even as a bonus included. So unfortunately AMAZON is wrong with the runtime! German discs run longer than 80 minutes and include the Rollin Zombie scenes but they might not have English subtitles and are either in French or German language. The US-version is supposed to have 10 minutes of alternate footage as a bonus - whatever it is.
It has already been mentioned that this one is only for hardcore Franco fans; if you like a slow movie with the typical south American flair made by Jess Franco ... Read More:

Ignoring the fact that this is more Cannibal based than Zombie based, this is a middle of the road adventure for both genres.

It is basically a poor mans version of Zombie Flesh Eaters (and even shares the same star). It has a plot, though it's logic escapes me (as it should in this type of film), revolving around an island, some cannibals and a doctor. It has actors, that aren't very good, ehere is some gore, a strange logo that keeps appearing (with it's own sound effect), cannibals that only fear zombies and... zombies that aren't as well made or as plentiful or Fluci's Zombie Flesh Eaters.

Still, it had a bigger budget than I expected and didn't dwell on plot points long enough for me to care about it's stupidity. You ... Read More:

Someone once had a decent idea for a zombie revenge film featuring sympathetically viewed nazis wiped out in a French village during WW2.
Then they tried to make it into a film.
Clearly the only way to obtain any cash was to promise lots of naked young flesh and it was all spent on said young ladies. Clearly, nothing was spent on hiring actors, writers or even a special effects department. I have seen better at a school play (no, really! If your zombies have to crawl out of a lake, use waterproof paint which isn't going to run all over the victims.) There is nothing at all that is good about this movie. Nothing.

I'm such a big fan of Lucio Fuilci that I bought this DVD without hesitation although I never heard of it... Big mistake. There is no gore, no intense and shockingly disgusting moment, no weird electronic soundtrack. Just the usual confusing story although this time it never makes any sense whatever angle you try to see it.
Waste of time and money.
I feel really bad for this great director having made such classic films in 1979-1981 (city of the living dead, the beyond, house by the cemetery, zombie flesh eaters), I couldn't believe his recent work to be such a waste.
Lucio what happened to you? :(
