As a computer illiterate I was hesitant to try to install this NAS drive as I had little clue what I was doing. It was however extremely easy, never a problem from beginning to end. In use it acts transparently as an extra hard drive accessible from every computer in the house. Wireless data transfer is certainly slower than a wired connection but that has never caused any problem, it has just slowed the mass data transfer from the wireless computers on my home net.

Most importantly it now holds my digital music for streaming to my Sonos music system (heartily recomended). Again, the set up with the Sonos was very easy and it works perfectly without having to have any computers turned on. The only break in music I have experienced ... Read More:

I have a MAC Notebook. I read all the reviews on this item and thought why not it's entry level and enough space for me. The NAS Drive was picked up straight away by my Mac. The WEB based interface is good and easy to use. However heres the bad news, through extensive searching the forums I have come to the conclusion that MAC does not support NAS. I tried for 4 days solid and nearly a devorce to try and connect the drive to Mac Airport and Time Machine. There is a command you can type into Terminal to tell Mac to recognise the Nas Drive as it is unsupported. Mac can see the drive but still refuses to do anything with it and when it does decide to recognise it, it fails at the last hurdle. Don't take my word for it, do the research, that is my recommendation, ... Read More:

I purchased the Sony NAS-S55HDE Giga Juke from Amazon, an excellent service as always, because I wanted to gather all my MP3s on to one system. I proceeded to transfer all my Cd ripped MP3s to the systems Hard Drive. This to fill around 50GB (yes I have a lot of CDs) took nearly 2 Weeks! If you have a small difference in the MP3 tags (ie: Upper or Lower case fonts) for the same album it will put them into seperate folders.
The couple of drawbacks to the Gigajuke is that when trying to connect a USB device such as an External Hard Drive to transfer files, it will only recognise Drives with the Fat32 format, So I've had to re-format two of my NTFS Drives. Also when connecting to the Internet without a Network Router capable of Aoss, if you have a Wireless Router ... Read More:

I'm a Sony boy, so when I decided that I wanted a HDD music system, this was the obvious choice. I was looking for a decent HDD capacity, obviously a good sound, a DAB radio and a system that looks well in the living room.

This piece of kit delivers on all four of those, so it does the job, but its not all plain sailing. I've not explored the full features of this system yet so this is not a full review, but there's certainly a few things I think people need to consider before purchasing one.

Firstly, its quite expensive for what it is, although the price on Amazon at the time of writing this is £30 less than I paid and much more reasonable. You can get a hell of a lot of system for nigh on £300 these days, so its a major consideration. I went ... Read More:

The text entry for track info and settings is very slow. The speakers (100W pair)only rate as a midi system so don't get this if you consider yourself to be a audiophile and you want to annoy the neighbours. Having said that it performs to specification and is exactly what I was looking for. the cables to the speakers are of reasonable quality and the ends are tinned so they don't fray. The track selection and randomisation functions are reasonably developed, but only as good as the track info you provide. Transfer from my PC was easy. If you do this make sure the tracks are correctly labelled before transfer. Wireless network was a pain for me to set up as I normally use WEP-PKA but had to change to simple WEP, which meant reconfiguring all my pc wireless settings. network ... Read More:

I was a bit impulsive when buying this. Usually I read a whole lot of forums before purchasing. I bought this because I have a USB2 MyBook which has been brilliant.

This NAS version is another story. I bought this drive to stream VOB files to my media player. But the speed of the drive is too slow for streaming DVD's. Reading more about this drive on the forums shows that the max speed is at about 4MB/sec. 4MB/sec! What is the point of a advertising this drive as a gigabit networked drive if it only does 4MB/sec. Delving into this, and reading about other NAS drives, such as the Linksys 100MB NAS drive, I've realized that all of the reasonably priced NAS drives average at about this speed due to onboard processor limitations. To get something fast, apparently ... Read More:

Great product but if it breaks like mine did after 6 months it costs £35 to get the drive back to their european distribution centre for replacement and they don't refund this which was quite a surprise.
