I needed a low-profile firewire card for my Dell Dimension C521 PC, which has no firewire port, in order to upload videos from my Canon camcorder to the PC. Only one slot on the PC would accommodate it, so I had to remove an old unused dial-up modem card from that slot. Do make sure to fully uninstall the any card that's already there - I didn't do so first time round, which caused problems, but now the StarTech card works fine. I would recommend the product, particularly in view of the fact that StarTech gave me prompt & personal e-mail support in sorting out the problems caused by failing to uninstall the old modem card beforehand.

Easy peasy DV video capture from my Sony Handycam to the PC. Delivery was swift, card was true 'plug n play' and I was editing videos in a matter of minutes. The Ulead software seems good although I've not done much with it yet. Good value all round for £15 (inc p & p).

Following up on an earlier review of mine (which seems to have disappeared) the card slotted into an old Asus P4 motherboard and was recognised immediately by XP. No additional drivers required. Worked fine for me with a Sony Mini DV camera (Firewire port) and various USB devices plugged into the USB ports (cameras, mice, etc.) One point worth bearing in mind (and the reason I'm only giving it 4 stars) is that the internal USB socket, the 5 pin header next to it, and the topmost USB socket on the back plate are all connected to just one USB port. This is gret. A nice cheap and cheerful firewire card bought to work with an external hard-drive. Installed automatically fine - which I was concerned about as I run XP-64 bit, for which there are notoriously few drivers. Connects fine - time will tell whether it lasts though.

This product is very good - I have successfully used it to upgrade my computer to USB 2.0 and Firewire. The bay for the front it so much easier than trying to plug things like USB sticks and iPods in around the back so I'd recommend it just for the convenience. ---------- I haven't given this product 5/5 because of 2 reasons (I should point out that I'm a novice with these things so anyone with more experience probably wouldn't have any problems): (1) There were no instructions to tell you what order to install things in. Bought this to connect my basic Sony MiniDV Camcorder to my laptop, which didn't come with it's own firewire port. Plugged it in, computer recognises it and you're up and running on Windows Moviemaker within minutes. No messing product. Highly recommended!

4 Port Firewire PCI IEEE1394 AV capture Adapter (3 x 6 Pins 1 x 4 pins) with Cable I admit some trepidation-first time I've fiddled inside the computer. A lot of these cards do not specify Vista support, but this one did. It was so easy, just slot it in and turn the PC back on. The PC recognised it immediately and within minutes I was downloading from my antiquated JVC camcorder. I am delighted with the service and the results.
