Quite simply the best value for money Canon prime lens you can buy!
Amazing quality photos in low light conditions - great for portraits.
As countless others have noted, the only negative is the cheap build quality, but then any lens needs to be cared for! Used with care produces great results, full stop.

This is the natural partner for the 18-55 lens that came as kit with the body.
The lens is not actually 100% plastic as most of the people states, it is in part made by plastic, but the part that attacches to the camera body is painted alluminium, it looks and weights like plastic but is metal!
The IS is amazing, and the lens very sharp, even at 250mm... once attached to your body, the only limit is your creativity.
this is the best zoom lens around for a cheap budget if you own as EOS camera.

Best Lens 195 pounds can buy.

This lense feels well built and is compact enough to fit into almost any kit bag.

It performs well when used for portrait work and is a worthwhile purchase for that use, although it has limited application for anything else.

For the price, give it a go, you will produce enough good shots to make it well worth the investment.

I have owned one of these for 18 months. In that time it has broken twice, on both occasions the lens was mounted on the camera and reasonably protected, and I am anything but an action photographer. After the most recent failure Nikon are quoting £130 to fix it, so I think I'm going to call it a day on this particular model. When it was working the image quality was good enough; that is to say it had a number of limitations (fairly widely reviewed) but in most cases images can be fixed by post processing by DX-Pro or similar. The VR kind-of-works, as someone said it's a good way of getting images of blurred sportsmen running across razor sharp grass. It is a good price mind, and perhaps I have been unlucky but it is very flimsy.

I bought this lens about eight months ago for my Canon 350D. If like me you bought the kit that comes bundled with the 18-55mm lens you'll notice there is a big gap when it comes to zoom/telephoto shots, this is a great budget tele-photo zoom lens that does what it says on the tin, and fills the gap nicely.

I am an amateur photographer at best and still learning, but after using the lens for a while I was disappointed to learn that the f stop values really do make a big difference - the widest aperture you will be able to set this lens to is 4.0 at 75mm and only 5.6 at 300mm, if your really serious you need a fast lens like f/2.8, and definitely with IS (image stabilisation) - the lens is not that heavy (for me), but during a long shoot it ... I have recently bought this lens being a recent convert to Canon, and is already one of my favourites! I specialise in music photography, which means high ISO, no flash and low light conditions.

This lens comes up trumps in all departments and for small / midsize venues, Crisp, fast and solid, this really is the only lens you will need.

I do not know how Amazon allow this sort of thing to happen but at least half of these reviews relate to lenses other than the one featured.

The image quality is close to what you would expect from an expensive "L" lens. Nice sharp details in macro shots, and nice looking blur in out of focus areas.

Can also be used for general photos, such as portraits.

After searching for my first lense for my Canon EOS 400D i decided i wanted something cheap with a little bit of zoom, so i got this one, and to be fair it has excellent quality, i have taken several pics of my cat at 75mm and 300mm the lense maintains the sharpness throughout, despite reading several reviews saying its not sharp at all, the hairs on my cat show up in quality.

i reccomend this lense for anyone looking to take portrait pics and also people looking for long shots of wildlife, aircraft ect.

the build also has a sturdy design, feels excellent with the grip also weighs a fair but, not too heavy so this is also a positive for the lense.

it focuses fast, the only down side what i think will smooth out is when i zoom past 275mm it get a ... Read More:

I'm very impressed with this lens. Before I bought it, I read reviews on various websites, some saying it was brilliant, some saying it wasn't very sharp, too big, too heavy etc.I took the plunge and bought one and haven't regretted it. I've used this on d40 and d300 bodies and it works superbly on both.

The autofocus is very fast, quiet and accurate. The VRII system is also very impressive allowing very slow shutter speeds - I've had sharp, handheld images at 1/30 sec at 300mm which would be completely impossible without it. As for the size and weight, for a lens with a maximum focal length of 300mm with a built in focusing motor and an optical stabilisation system it's not really a problem (the canon equivalent is the same size but 100g lighter). The build is also fairly ... Read More:
