When I first saw this with its plastic flexy legs I had my doubts whether it would be steady enough. But reassured by the enthusiastic reviews bought one, and discovered my initial reservations were justified. I used it with my Sony R1 and Ricoh GX100 and find it flexes and wobbles too much to be much of an advantage over careful hand holding and bracing the camera against walls, lampost etc. So since it's not all that small I find myself leaving it at home quite a lot.

This is without doubt great value for money.

And in fact I was very impressed...........until I extended it.

The actual tripod head is really quite good, I was more than satisfied with being able to easily pan to the left and right and switch to portrait.

However, when extended to anything near eye level it really is quite flimsy and is not very stable at all, which seems to me the main purpose of a Tripod? (this does make it very lightweight though)

Therefore it certainly shouldn't be considered for serious amateur or semi-pro Photography.

I was looking for a tripod to take on holiday (alpine walking in Switzerland), so wanted something small & light whilst still being sturdy enough to hold a DSLR rock-steady. Also wanted to avoid those piddley travel tripods that stand a maximum of 15cm tall, and mean that you're either constantly looking for a conveniently situated wall to put the thing on, or you're crawling on your hands and knees just to look through the viewfinder.
The VCT-R100 fulfilled every one of my requirements; It is basic as tripods go, but strikes the perfect balance between size/weight and portability/practicality. And I can still barely believe it was less than £20. Bargain.

I wanted this mini tripod to go with my Canon Ixus 75 camera to take nightime/low light shots without a flash. This tripod is perfect for that size camera and can fit easily in my pocket (either with or without the material case that's included).

The only minor criticism I have would be that the legs sometimes struggle to stay fully extended, but with a compact camera this is rarely an issue.

I have recently purchased a DSLR (D60) and have been using this tripod with it while I decide on which larger tripod to buy. For occasional use with the DSLR this mini tripod works very well, but just make sure the legs are fully extended as I've had it fall over with a heavy lense on the camera!
