Lens is excellent - service provided by the seller Allcam first rate let down only by the staggering incompetence of the delivery courier Citylink who managed to attempt to deliver to the wrong address twice in succession.

Now e-commerce is a fantastic retail development but it depends on the reliability of the carrier. This one, Citylink in Northern Ireland should be avoided at all costs - they are eyewateringly inept and their customer service is a disgrace. By all means buy online folks but avoid this courier service like the plague!

Optically this lense does everything it sets out to do, although with some vignetting at 200. However it does suffer from zoom creep, even when new, [I have an e mail from nikon admitting this] and this can only get worse as the lens mechanism wears. Records of lenses sent back to cure this are not good. In short this problem can only really be cured with a suitable elastic band which of course makes a bit of a laughing stock of an expensive Nikon product. The new Tamron lense out soon will have a zoom lock - a good idea for such a long heavy barrel that Nikon should have though of.

This Nikon SB-800 Speedlight was purchased to be used with a D300 D-SLR.

Although not the most powerful flashgun available on the market it's however, powerful enough and extremely well built and it's manual is very comprehensive and I'm still digesting all of it's content.

As with all of today's camera/flashgun manufacturers, whose products work effortlessly together, Nikon products are no exception. You get various auto modes such as I-TTL, AA etc. depending on your camera type, together with full manual mode when desired. It comes with a case, stand, soft light diffuser, gel kit and the extra battery attachment so a fifth battery can be use which reduces it's recharge time but strangely, no batteries. I'm ... I'm very impressed with this lens. Before I bought it, I read reviews on various websites, some saying it was brilliant, some saying it wasn't very sharp, too big, too heavy etc.I took the plunge and bought one and haven't regretted it. I've used this on d40 and d300 bodies and it works superbly on both.

The autofocus is very fast, quiet and accurate. The VRII system is also very impressive allowing very slow shutter speeds - I've had sharp, handheld images at 1/30 sec at 300mm which would be completely impossible without it. As for the size and weight, for a lens with a maximum focal length of 300mm with a built in focusing motor and an optical stabilisation system it's not really a problem (the canon equivalent is the same size but 100g lighter). ... This product is easy to use with the low magnification but there are design issues with the x400. The focus wheel is not smooth which makes it difficult to focus at x400, the only easy way is to to move the camera towards or away from the object.
This would be a great product if the high magnification was reduced to x200, the focus mechanism made smoother (and also if the pixel resolution was 1024x768 or greater).
