1.Acan USB Barcode Scanner Reader from: Acan
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Electronics : Acan USB Barcode Scanner Reader

I bought this scanner to work with Movie Collector (the program from Collectorz.com). I wanted the functionality of a barcode scanner to make it quicker to catalogue my DVD collection, but I didn't want to pay £120 for the scanner they advertise on their site.
I ordered the Acan USB scanner having read the user reviews and it just worked out of the box. It doesn't come with any software and I haven't looked at the manual - I just plugged it in, Windows installed it and it has worked with the software (Movie Collector) ever since. It has worked reliably since reading all barcodes I have tried it on and it looks well made. Excellent value.

Electronics : ACAN PS/2 & USB(Adapter included) CCD Barcode Reader

After a few hours research on the internet, I found out why I couldn't get this to work - it will only work if it has a PS2 keyboard connected to the female socket on the BCR lead. If you use a PS2 keyboard, you can unplug it and plug it in via the lead and it will work, if you use a USB keyboard, you will need to plug another PS2 keyboard into the lead.

If you intend use it with a laptop like me or don't have a PS2 keyboard, I suggest you get the slightly more expensive model. Other than that, it is very easy to use and seems reasonable quality.
