I must start by saying that this camera (DSC-W300) is the first digital camera I have purchased. I have some experience with 35mm SLRs, but I wanted a versatile piece of kit that would enable me to upload pictures to the internet, print directly from the camera, and add images to my PlayStation 3 console. The first thing I should note, and as indicated by the above comments, is that I think compact cameras are fundamentally utility devices. There are many people on the internet who criticise this model's unsuitability for longer-distance and wide-angle photography, and the lack of many video modes. Took this great camera with me on several trips now to Egypt and Bonaire and although it is rated for use to a maximum depth of 10 meters is has been deeper with me without any problems. Battery life may vary but it is easy to use and has a clear display. Fits easily in the pocket of your BCD. Clip it to a D-ring because it will sink if you let it go. Overall good quality pics both above and under water. Love it and if I would lose it I would order another one before my next trip !

Got mine as an xmas gift as we were expecting our son at the time. rarely took photo's before but thought we would take loads once the baby was born, which we have. Love it. easy to use. lots of nice easy functions to takes more creative photo's if you fancy.

I wasn't too impressed with the pictures from this camera when I first started using it in auto mode, too washed out with poor colours (OK it's a cheap camera, what do you expect). However, I then started using the scene mode settings and what a transformation ! This makes a huge difference, colouration is now pretty much what you would like to see. Excellent little camera for the price.

I bought this camera in April and it's been nothing but trouble. The pictures are often blurred but I initially put this down to my lack of skill. The battery usage is very high but I also encountered a problem where the camera wouldn't take new batteries, shutting down automatically when brand new batteries were inserted! I had to use any batteries in another piece of equipment for 10 minutes before the camera would accept them. After 6 frustrating months of trying to get it to take pictures that were continually in focus rather than occasionally so, it finally gave up the ghost today, the 18 inch drop from my soft bed to my soft carpet being enough to break this flimsy construction beyond use. Possibly the single worst piece of equipment I have ever owned.

Bought this camera in November last year. It has been an excellent buy and does everything you would want from a camera of this type. However, mine developed a fault in September(the lens would not come out) and needed a repair. Sony have an excellent service for repairs but you MUST have a proof of purchase or your repair will cost you £30 MORE than a new camera. Luckily I bought mine from Amazon where you can retrace old orders. Saved me over £120 as I could not find my original invoice. Thanks Amazon!
