Now this looks a very smart camcorder as was pleased when opened the box. Very confusing though when you try to get it started. Cannot register it either. When trying to register it with the disc it will only register it if you live in the states (although purchased on Amazon UK). So i tried online and that will still not register either. Filming was good though which we bought specifically for our new addition to the family. Recorded a whole dvd's worth. Could not get the disc out to use it for a friends wedding though. When finally it decided to eject i took it out and then put it back in the camcorder (for some reason i really don't know why i did) and it formatted it without me even touching it. I bought this camera after my old Sony DVD camera was stolen at Heathrow when my baggage went missing for 3 days. I eventually got the smashed baggage returned sans camera. Moral: always carry cameras in your hand luggage. This camera is lighter than my old one but has an enhanced set of features including the addition of a wonderful touch screen interface, which I really like. It does not take still photos to disk; you need to plug in a memory card to take stills. My old camera allowed stills to be taken directly to disk. This is no concern to me as I have a digital camera for stills and I also use Corel Ulead VideoStudio 11 plus that allows stills to be created from any frame of video footage, a nice feature. 2 months after purchasing i noticed big motor noise so sent it back to be repaired. i sent it to repair about 2 months ago and still haven't got it back.

I wanted a point and shoot camera that had good quality pictures, widescreen and surround sound features. I also wanted HD quality pictures but that was out of my price range so this camera was the nearest to that I could get. It hasn't disappointed. The camera is a piece of cake to use and the quality is great. Haven't tried the surround sound out a huge amount at the moment but I look forward to creating that 'cinema style home movie' shortly. Recording to mini DVD is a great way of keeping movies for those of us not interested in dumping them to PC and editing. Let's face it - the majority of us want point, shoot, watch technology and this gives you that. Would recommend to anyone. buy one!

Its good points are it size and ease of use. Its bad points are: 1. The colour in the recordings is not as good as the old Sony Hi8 (tape) camcorder we have just given away. 2. If you want edit your footage on a computer, extracting ("ripping") the video from the DVD is a very, very slow process. A camera with Firewire would be much better. If you just want to stick the DVDs into a DVD player and watch them, it's fine but you still suffer from poor colours.

ive had no problems at all with this sony dvd camcorder , non at all .. i have our dvd camcorder set to long play .. so you get 60 minutes out of the dvd+rw instead of the 30 minutes .. i recommend you buy the camera bag set with the extra battery & dvd+r inside it .. great little camcorder and great and easy to use , it does not have a light on it though , but you can purchase one of those .. they sell dvd+rw's really cheap now you can pick a 5 pack up for less than £10.00 .. great little camcorder from excellent sony .. see u ..
