Brilliant camera - brilliant pictures in RAW format but let down by the image conversion software supplied on disc with the camera. Sony help line about as good as their software !! Pity really otherwise would have given the complete package 5 stars.

I am not a photographic expert, but a novice who has been eager to upgrade from compact cams to a DSLR for a long time. Consequently I did a lot of research prior to investing in my D40 recently, and I am very happy with my decision. Sure, if you are willing to spend considerably more money you will get a better camera, but it is foolish to think that you would also automatically get better pictures! If you can do without certain 'bells & whistles', like liveview or bracketing for instance, then this camera gives you all you need to take great photos. Also don't assume that an 8 or 10 megapixel camera is 'better' - 6 is more than enough unless you want to enlarge your photos to poster size, or you want to crop your ... Read More:

I bought this camera six months ago and to date i have taken some of the best photos ever.Simple to operate and use, the anti shake mode is superb. If you are thinking of buying one of these do not hesitate grab yourself a bargain.

what a great piece of kit. im 18 and ive been taking pictures for as long as i can remember (my mum and dad are both photographers), i have a nikon d3 and a d2x, but i needed something that was cheaper, that i could take to locations where the camera might encounter the odd knock! i had the nikon d40 when that first came out and thought it was a little cracker, but no longer needed it, so ebay it was for that. but i can safely say ill be using it alot more then i thought, the VR kit lens is great (although im using the 55-200 onit atm) but for £340 (what i paid) this camera AMAZING, ive used camera more ten times that and recieved results far less satisfying, the camera is light, and VERY well made, it feels like your harding...urm ... I've owned my Canon 1000D for about 3 weeks now and have given it a reasonable test drive. The one thing that strikes me most is the ease at which I can find my way around the camera instantly to find the correct settings (very intuitive). The Camera noise is non-exsistant at ISO 800 and ISO 1600,(outstanding). The EOS 1000D is very similar in shape and style to the 450D, it even shares the exact same "LIVE VIEW" technology, all the button's are the same, layout the same, just the 1000D sports a 10mp Sensor and the 450D a 12mp Sensor. I so far have only used the 18-55mm image stabilized kit lens, and am very satisfied with the results, the 1000D Kit lens construction and optics are far superior to the kit lens supplied with the Canon Eos 400D, I've read all ... Some cameras have no instructions manual for the lens kit. Canon have advised: "If the client contacts Robert Scott Associates on 01869 331 741 they will be able to confirm and assist with the enquiry regarding instructions for the lens kit."

Ive just started A level photography and decided to buy a good camera. Stright away I thought of Cannon as they have a good reputation. I brought the Cannon 450D. After about 5 days it was just not what I was looking for, the live view wasent amazing and the standard lens was not good enough for the price I paid. I decided to go for the Sony a350. WOW what a differance, the live view was fantastic. The standard lens was great and the 14MP made alot of differance when zoomed in. Im very satisfied with this product, friends and teacher think its great.. I advice people to buy this product due to the simplicity of it and how it works. Hope this helped you choose between the two.
