Wouldn't be without it. Granted when in use I may as well have my 400D as regards bulk, but that can't be taken to bits and fit in my pocket, not ever. I view this item as a must have for the G9, couldn't live G9 life without it. REQUIRES also Canon Lens Conversion Adapter LA-DC58H for PowerShot G7 & G9- won't fit without it, but can (must) also be used for the telephoto adapter. Finally, this is a wide-angle lens ADAPTER, NOT an actual lens. You get the wide angle effect (speaking in terms of compact cameras), without the internal glass of a "real" lens. So, it's less expensive, but as far as I am concerned it works just fine. Anthony

This lens has quality written all over it. It comes with a hard plastic hood for the front and back of the lens which then goes into a sturdy, cloth, draw-string bag for extra protection. When you screw the lens on to your camcorder the difference is very impressive. You get far more of your subject and the surroundings into view; this is especially true for indoor filming when you want to get as much of the room into your shot. When added to the camcorder the difference in the weight and feel is negligible, I certainly have no problems in that respect. It's best to hold your camcorder in a perpendicular stance when attaching the lens, and then to gently rotate the lens into the thread of the camcorder until you feel it lock. There is no need ... I have owned one of these for a month now and it is amazing. Its construction (made in Japan) is sturdy and wonderful to behold. It is quite big (as one would expect), fitting in the fist, and makes the camera nose heavy but it does exactly what it says on the box: magnifies the image by a factor of 1.7, making it possible to get even closer to your objects of photography. I have not noticed any problems with colour or any other distortions, and I've been quite careful to compare images with and without the lens. The box comes with caps for both ends of the lens and a lovely pouch. You need your lens convertor (comes with the Cybershot) as this attaches the lens to the camera.
