Whilst this camera takes decent but not outstanding pics, beware of the sound quality if you're thinking of buying it to take video clips at gigs.

Believe me, the poor quality of the sound will make your clips unuseable.

If you can get the thing to focus in the low light setting of a gig, you'll get a decent picture, but that's it.

If you can't get it to focus, you're left with a blur!(and yes, I have tried it with continuous auto focus on and off, and I've updated the firmware.

So,it's ok if you just want a point and shoot for every day snapping, but otherwise forget it!

Bought this after losing my Canon Ixus50 (5Mega-pixel). The camera is robust and has plenty of useful features - however the intelligent mode select and anti-shake are not great. I did get better results from my Canon. However at the price its good value. Takes SD cards which are cheap and easy to plug into most laptops and the battery lasts well. Prefer the Canons picture taking ability but a good cheap digital camera.

Having been thinking about buying a new camera to replace my ageing 5mp point-and-shoot for a few months, I was tied between the Lumix TZ5 and this camera. Having played with them on the high street there was absolutely no competition.

I took this camera away with me to Turkey a couple of weeks ago. Knowing very little about photography I kept the camera on automatic most of the time, though the sunset and sports modes are very good, the sunset scene mode really brings out the reds and oranges in sunsets. Using a tripod you can get some really amazing night shots. In the right hands you could get some brilliant shots with this toy, that's not to say that an amateur can't achieve similar results.

I'm very pleased that ... Read More:

A good-sized compact camera that is small enough to put in a shirt pocket but has large enough controls to manipulate easily. The camera feels solid and the Zeiss lens seems very sharp, with the 2.5 inch screen being of a reasonable size. The 4x zoom is easy to operate and the quick zoom button is also quite useful. The wide-angle (30mm) capability was the feature that most attracted me to this camera and it works well, both for landscapes and for interior photography. With a capacity of 10 megapixels the camera should be able to cope with most projects and this resolution can be reduced for day-to-day snap taking. Menus are fairly intuitive and are quick and easy to negotiate and there appears to be a good selection of useful modes including face detection etc. ... Read More:

I bought this product in advance of my 7 day old son being born (not off Amazon due to price). This was to reaplce a lower budget camera from old. The attraction was the HD output and the video option, the camera produced brilliant results and functionality is superb, whilst I am no expert on photography this offers everything I require and more. It also looks very stylish in black!!!

I was deciding between this, the Sigma DP1 and the Canon G10 cameras. I prompted for the LX3 on the basis of:

1. I believe that Canon have made an error by increasing the pixels on their camera and keeping the same size sensor chip. I also believe that the G10 was probably slightly too big (more on that later). I was also phased by its pricing as I felt it did not offer anything significantly better than the LX3, while being around 30% more expensive.

2. While I loved the idea of the DP1 and was not phased by its pricing because of the huge sensor chip and the awesome colour and photo quality this is supposed to have, I was scared off by constant references to this being a very difficult camera to take a good photo with. Also the comments ... Read More:

When my daughter splashed out on a superb Canon G9 Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera - Black (12.1MP, 6x Optical Zoom) 3.0" LCD earlier this year, I decided it was time to replace my trusty Canon Ixus v with something a bit more sophisticated. Not wishing to pay G9 or SLR prices, and disliking the trend away from proper viewfinders on many recent ultra-compact models, I reckoned this is a perfect compromise between price, size and convenience. Having a Leica lens is a big attraction too of course.

I've had the FZ8 for a couple of months and find it's a joy to use - and of course the results are almost always a pleasure to look at too. The zoom lens is simply astonishing: I still can't believe some of the detail in the pictures I take of objects hundreds ... Read More:

I have to give this camera 5 stars because for my purposes it is perfect. Panasonic are one of the few manufacturers that make wide angle compacts...I can count on one hand the number of cameras currently available that go wider than 28mm, and to find one as tiny as this is amazing....the only other that I can think of is the Ricoh GX100, which is bigger and more expensive.

The lens is excellent...it is sharp, the lack of distortion at wide angle is impressive, there is no real purple fringing and the vignetting is also minimal (darkening at the edges that occours with most lenses)...amazing really

I only really use this camera in good light and the results are excellent...some say the sensor is noisy in low light (grainy images)...but in ... Read More:
