Update The bundled software, Power DVD 7.3, does not support Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound as this software is the OEM version. 2 channel sound only is supported. This is a major disappointment as upgrading to Power DVD 8 costs about £60 and you will lose the ability to play HD DVD if you do this (unless you install 7.3 and 8 side by side which is supposed to be possible). The supplied software was a major reason I bought this drive and I would now rate it a 4 stars not 5. This is possibly the current best Bluray drive on the market. It writes/reads to Bluray, DVD, CD and reads HD DVD so if you have any movies in this now defunct format you can still watch them. Writing speeds are excellent. The drive has light scribe ... Went to order 5 of these discs from Discountdiscs, thought what a bargain. Yes if you drive there to pick them up. £22.50 POSTAGE AND PACKING???? What a joke.

I was hesitatant in going Blu-Ray. I have used DVD recordable since its early days. I went through the buying cheap and nasty DVD recordables phase, and paying the price for that, in terms of discs I could not read only a few weeks after burning them. I then switched to using branded DVDs - which I have been doing for 5 years or more with very few problems. The problem is that - as it gets ever easier to create digital data by the truckload (in my case by making lots of digital off-air TV and radio recordings) the once mighty 4.7Gbytes capacity offered by DVD Recordable now seems pretty inadequate. Even the 8.6GB dual layer DVD discs - which are actually pretty good now if you buy branded ones - don't really solve the problem any more ... Read More:
