I received my 4400f very fast, Thank you Amazon. but,,, I am having trouble trying to use the Clone tool. After scanning the document I click on the clone window, and try to use it, Then a small window keeps popping up saying, "please shift + click," I have tried shifting,, left mouse clicking, every thing possible, but that window pops up every time I click my mouse, I even re-loaded the whole programme again as per the book, Please help, Regards,,,,, George,,

As yet I am not impressed with this gadget. My first ZPen was faulty - after charging it for the requisite 6 hours I found that the transmitter (the pen) carried on sending a signal even if it was off the page, resulting in hideous squiggle when looking at the document on the PC. The item was quickly replaced by the seller (Select Home Shopping - via Amazon) so no problems there. The second Zpen, after charging, also did not work - the receiver is not recognised by my (or several other) PC's, even after re-setting, as recommended by the Dane Elec website. The battery is also uncomfortably warm, after only a few minutes plugged in to the USB port. I am sending this one back also and willing to give it one last try.

I'm really impressed with this scanner but, as a Mac user, was extremely disappointed by the software Canon supply with it - some seriously old editions of ArcSoft PhotoStudio and OmniPage SE, both of which are PowerPC editions. They are so old that the suppliers won't offer any support; upgrading to newer versions costs over £110. I got rid of my old HP scanner because their software support was so poor and now find myself in the same situation with Canon. It's a real shame, but this cheapens the product - beautifully made, but with ancient software.

I bought an earlier version of this scanner in (I think) 2000. The current version is the same size, makes the same amount of noise, has the same speed and costs the same. No progress in eight years...

Nonetheless, the software has been improved a lot and this results in higher quality pictures at smaller file sizes. Good stuff.

Overall this is a solid scanner, it was worked flawlessly over the last few months and its predecessor is still working (on XP).

My score: 4 out of 5

I needed to upgrade my scanner as its now a crucial part of my business so I plumped with the Cannon LiDE 600 and haven't looked back.

I personally haven't used all the extra buttons on the scanner itself because the Cannoscan Toolbox works perfectly fine with Vista and after you've set up your preferences you just need to click scan and your away. The quality is excellent and 300dpi works great unless your going for a massive project scan and then I'd suggest upping it.

I haven't played with the negative scanner yet but I've read a lot of reviews saying that's great but tricky to get going with.

However if you need a personal scanner that doesn't need additional power as this one works from USB and that scans quickly ... Read More:

I had a Visioneer 9000, but it was incompatible with Windows Vista, so I bought the Canon. Unfortunately I have found it to be very slow. Scanning documents at 150 dpi each page takes 50 seconds. The actual scan takes 7 seconds, the remainder was waiting for it to do whatever it gets up to before the scan starts.

The Visioneer used to start scanning as soon as you pressed the button, or in other words it was a race to keep up with it when scanning multipage documents.

The software that comes with it is confusing. I ditched most of it as pretty useless in the end (Page Manager and ArcSoft Photo Manager).

True, it's not expensive, but then neither was the Visioneer. I don't think I would recommend this scanner to anyone.

Very impressed indeed with this item. I bought the Plustek Opticfilm 7200i scanner at first but the software was so unstable i couldnt run it on Vista. then i saved a bit more money and got this baby and i'm so glad i did. the quality is brilliant. professional mode gives you all the control you could want and the silverfast software has some great features too. you can scan 35mm, medium format, large format and its great for my panoramic swing lens camera too. Also scanning a whole film at high quality is a dream on this compared to the Plustek. i can leave this working away for hours (24 frames on very high settings) and be sure its fine, where as the other one could crash and burn after seconds.
very pleased and would certainly recommend this if you can afford ... Read More:
