Have this in my new gaming PC along with the 8800GTX gpu, 2GB of 800mhz ram on a socket AM2 motherboard. All works well and runs at warp speed compared to my dusty old Dell. Got the new PC a few months ago so obviously there's faster stuff out there now, but this CPU is still among the top 10 CPU's on tomshardware.com and is far cheaper than the equivalent Intel number.

Overall I'd recommened this to anyone buying a PC for 'normal use' to slightly more advanced use involving occassional gaming. However, if you do a lot of gaming, particularly online it might be an idea to wait for the new AMD 'Phenom' CPU's to come out as they're bound to be extremely powerfull and cheaper than Intel.

Well, where to begin? ...Hmm, at the beginning I suppose. This CPU (E6600) is simply better than any other AMD CPU on the market...and yes, it is better than AMD's socket F tomfoolery before you raise your hand to interupt me. Marry this beast with an 8800GTX (or GTS version) and some low latency DDR2-800 (2GB for starters), and you have a veritable beast on your sweaty paws. I remember when I first knocked together my E6600 system and booted the thing up..."Why is the CPU fan rotating??...must...find...3...pin...fan...header...connector!" - I thought that, in my haste to build the PC, that I'd forgotten to connect it. I was expecting some kind of imminent 'China Syndrome' meltdownery, but no! The fan was connected to the 3 pin header after ... Read More:

This is a fantastic processor, with great overclocking ability, and already clocked at 2.67ghz is no way sluggish at all! Most games, including the latest blockbusters like Bioshock will run beautifully on this processor with no lag at all.

Another great thing about Core 2 Duo is the amount of stuff you can have going at once, it's really good. Run a movie, itunes, a game and much more all at once without any slowdown..Yeah, it's nice but when is one person gonna run all that at once!? :p

Overall, yeah it's a great processor that you can overclock way past 3.4Ghz, but I'd step down to the 2.40ghz E6600 as it's much cheaper and the performance difference between them is negligble. Hope this helps.
