Navman S30 3D Satellite Navigation Unit With UK & Ireland Mapping The only way I could think of to measure the accuracy of the Navman S30 unit was to set it up with a trip I was familiar with, but rather than going out in the car I put it into demo mode. I setup home, and then setup a favorite destination - both very simple. It found the postcode, but not the house of my destination - so I put in 16 rather than 15 - no big deal. The unit was in default (i.e quickest, motorways, etc), and it had no problem getting to the destination town. I mainly use my TomTom ONE XL for geocaching, so I enter the destination latitude and longitude co-ordinates taken from an OS map and it's great. I don't find using a postcode as a desination is very accurate and it only takes you to the general area, however, directions over a long route are very good. I especially like the feature when it recalcultes another route within seconds if you divert from the recommened one for any reason. One annoying thing however is telling you to turn right when you are already on a main road and it's simply a right-hand bend with a junction on the left. It also will direct you up a dirt track occasionally, so you do have to use a bit of common sense, drive on and see what the recalculation tells you. Having the distance and arrival time ... Having recently had self inflicted problems with my TomTom (my son plugged in the wrong charger and blew it up!) I posted my system to Tomtom free of charge after they first sent me all the packaging, to have it returned in under a week fully repaired - again, no charge. I am extremely impressed with the service provided, it could not have been better. I have always been satisfied with my TomTom for ease of use and accuracy. It came into it's own during a holiday in France. Highly recommended all round.

After reading so many reviews of the TomTom and Garmin's I settled for the manufacturer associated with GPS since its inception and I have been thoroughly delighted with it up to now. I tried a colleague's widescreen TomTom but I found it too bulky and the general map display showed far too much detail, with irrelevant information dotted around the screen. Do you constantly need reminding of when you set off, or signal strength (surely if the map is moving when you are it is obvious there is a signal present). It seems that every conceivable need and convenience has been well thought out on this Garmin unit. For example, the screen automatically changes the background colour of the map from white when it's daytime and ambient light is bright, to dark blue at night. ... Read More:

I had my 530 for about 2 months. The device itself if simple to use, has good features and is quick to route and re-route. Lane assist is good (though not always up to date) and spoken instructions are clear (though with some hilarious mispronunciations using a computer voice to read out street names). However, the device started randomly shutting down and re-starting, losing the planned route and the most recent navigation address (meaning the address had to be typed again which driving). In one 150 mile drive it re-booted 8 times! I found TomTom support to be one of the worst I have ever come across. In the end I persuaded the shop where I purchased from to allow me to upgrade (it was out of their returns policy, but they could not believe the lack of support ... Read More:

Garmin Forerunner 205 - GA52I have had mine for a week and have found it is fantastic. I have run 5 marathons, countless half-marathons and now, at the age of 78, I walk some 130 miles a month. How I wish I had had this when training for my marathons. Read the blurb and you will see only a small proportion of what it can do. Three screens, each of which can have a variable number of panels. The display is really clear, even to my aging eyes. My only complaint is that the manual could be clearer and fuller. But if you are computer literate, there should not be any difficulty.
