I bought a powermonkey for a transatlantic flight and didn't need to use it in the end, but I did use the universal mains adaptor in the US to charge, not the monkey itself, but my ipod, two brands of mobile phone, and, having bought and additional connector tip, my Nintendo DS, so I didn't have to carry any extra mains adaptors! I can't comment on the efficacy of the monkey itself, but I consider it worth getting for the mains adaptor alone.

I had problems with my cable but in all honesty wasn't sure if it was this half (GPS TO SERIAL PORT) of the cable or the other half of the cable (USB TO SERIAL PORT) that was at fault. Downloading was hit and miss, sometimes it would work, other times it said it couldn't find the GPS. It even slipped out of its connection at the GPS end on several occasions. Wiggling the two halfs of the serial connectors together seemed to fix the problem each time the message appeared 'unable to find GPS', but I soon became very annoyed with this and decided to send both halves back. In the end I settled for a one piece cable (not available on this site - see comments) which works perfectly and was cheaper too.

There are loads of products like this now, but a year or so ago this was one of the few available. So I bought one. Lasted a day or two until a police car overtook me on the motorway and there was a loud bang. Thankfully no damage to the iPod but the Tunecast never worked again. No idea why. So I bought another one. What I've found is that sometimes it works really well and other times it doesn't work well at all. Have tried lots of different fixes... Being the only person in the car seems to help (again, no idea why) as does having the iPod on my lap. Even when it's working, though, I generally have to keep tuning to different frequencies because Radio 2 repeatedly elbows my tunes out of the way. Frustrating. One day I'll buy a car stereo that ... This bit of kit works but really annoyingly you have to also buy a serial to USB adapter (which probably costs more) if you don't have a serial port on your computer. The actual cable is solid and I've never had a problem with over 3 years of heavy use. You can use it both ways as it were. It gives and takes GPS info. For final clarification it works with 101 and 201 in both Foretrex and Forerunner flavours. Still a dumb description by Amazon.

I had to return this charger as it was not compatible with my Tom Tom one V2. At the time of purchase there was no indication of this in the product description.
