To be totally honest I know absolutely nothing about cameras. I have no interest in them. I have neither the time nor the inclination to wade through mountains of technical data which I probably wouldn't understand anyway. The camera was to be a gift for a friend of mine in India and as it had been rated so highly by Amazon reviewers I decided this well known manufacturer and model would be a pretty safe bet. The thoughtful people at Canon even supply two different plug sizes and so charging the battery abroad presented no problems. After the initial charge my friend was 'up and running' with his new prized possession. I kept this camera for abt 6 months. I have a Canon 30D and a Canon Powershot A710 IS plus several film cameras.I have loved the Nikon D40 and I ve liked most of the photos I've taken with it outdoors in cloudy days and also with long exposures during the night. The camera performs very well in those situations with any lens. Indoors photos show minimal noise up to iso 1100.For higher iso values the noise increases dramatically. Iso 1600 is in general unusable. Default colors are over saturated but they can be made softer trough the many adjustment options offered in menu. Picture quality drops significantly in high light situations, typically outdoors in a sunny day. It is possible to limit the damages by shooting at minus 1 or 1 and half stops but ... Read More:

After my trusty Nikon Coolpix 5200 disappeared I replaced it with this model. I expected great things but remain very disappointed. The main problem is the trueness of the colours in the photos. I've looked at them on various screens and even had them developed at 3 different places but to no avail. My very pale cream Golden Retriever is nearly the colour of a Red Setter on some of the photos and other colours are equally wrong. Tried various settings but it makes no difference. Should have stuck with Nikon.

This is my second DSLR camera and i was going to upgrade from my Canon 350D to the 400D, then i saw this reviewed in a computing magazine. For the price it's fantastic and the image quality is superb, it feel's well made and the kit lens is pretty good. All in all i would recommend this to anyone.

What a fantastic camera for the price. Easy to use. Small. Sleek. Clear large screen. Good battery life. Video facility gives excellent results. Memory card too small. Buy larger memory separately. No case, but you can pick one up on e-bay for a fiver!! Would recommend to anyone. Pink version at least £10 less than silver. Who needs silver!!

Excellent and easy to use but the battery life is very poor I have changed the battery twice and have only taken a few pictures.

This is my 2nd vivitar, with more bells & whistles than the basic, I've had it a month now, and I'm very pleased with it. Yes, you'll need to spend time getting to know its limitations and potential, (and your own) but I use my photos in a local magazine, and I find it does everything I need. No complaints, & you get more than you pay for. Leave it on 'fine' setting, get a 2GB card, and learn to use your own settings as well as the auto range of settings. Good colour on RGB- not as blue as on the earlier cheapo. The instruction book will also provide entertainment- who knew you should look where you're going?- but is relatively straightforward. Of course it's for amateurs, and of course it won't prevent you taking poor photos if they're what you take, but it's real ... Read More:

This series of cameras are very good. My daughter ( whos 2) threw mine in the bin when i wasnt looking and it gor thrown out ! anyway, despite what some have been saying, I use rechargeable AA batteries for my Sony Cybershots and have done for 4 years ! They are so much better than non rechargeable and far more eco friendly Far more. Buy two or three packs of recahrgeables so you always have a spare and you will be ok. Best Sound quality on a small camera mic there is !
