Having read lots about various dvd recorders decided to go for this one and have been really delighted. Not being at all technical, I thought I'd need help setting this up but it was so simple!! Having purchased this at the beginning of July, we decided to get a new TV and have gone for a Panasonic TX32LZD80 and find the set-up brilliant.

As a DVD player and Recorder it is excellent, if we stopped here it may be a 5/5. I feel a real opportunity has been missed to make this device a superb media centre, the way it manages music files and connects to alternative devices really limits what it can achieve. The USB connector is a let down - it won't recognise an external hard-drive which is a shame because I had hoped to plug mine in and benefit from the music and movies/TV shows I have on my computer without either burning to disk or copying to a USB pen drive. Flash-pen drives work fine, my product even came with a 1gb pen drive in the box including some sample files. The recorder is first rate. The noisy one must be faulty and should be returned. Mine is super quiet. Does all sorts of things - will copy DVDs (without protection). You can meke DVDs from VHS tapes etc.(Hook up your VHS recorder) etc.

The DVD and VCR that this replaced (from 6-10 years old) cost four times as much and yet this is superior to them both. I can't beleive that some expected a DVD Recorder was included at this price...give it a few more years at least, however the descriptions for the v6800 do vary depending which site is visited. The VCR definately has 6 heads and not 4. The DVD can become multi-region with the hack descibed by others on Amazon. If like me your TV only accepts Progressive Scan in NTSC format the DVD player won't output a PAL disc in NTSC format. NTSC encoded disks work fine. I didn't have any issue with the remote either although the dubious unbranded batteries could have caused that issue.

1. Good unit, easy to set up. 2. The remote puts all the necessary functions within easy reach: EPG, timer, slide show. 3. Good manual: clearly organised, well written, useful index. 4. Good slideshow: there's even an "angle" button on the remote so you can rotate images with one touch. 5. You can watch a DVD while recording to the HD. 5. Good connectivity: you can connect digital cameras, and through the USB port you can play slideshows from USB jumpdisks, CF cards, etc.

Arrived less than 24 hours after ordering. Thank you Amazon. Initial set up was painless. Just make sure you have connected the aerial lead first. I particularly like the DV input. Works a treat with my Canon MV960. I have connected my Sky+ via SCART at the moment and the results look OK. In the process of getting Component lead and will try that. Editing is quite easy to cope with. If you wish to edit programmes copy them to the HDD and edit on there before commiting to a DVD. I haven't tried copying protected VHS to the HDD/DVD yet so don't know if it can. Well I have to say after two weeks of use I'm absolutely knocked out by it's performance. The picture quality is superb and the copy quality from the Hard Drive is the best I've seen. Having had two previous Panasonic recorder/hdd combo's this really is their best yet. As a previous reviewer noted the instruction details could do with a user friendly tweak, but that aside I have yet to see a better machine. If you use and record from a HD source you will require calming measures as the end product should carry a Government health warning. So should you be in the market for a dvd/hdd recorder look no further. Highly recommended.

Bought this product and even the first time i used it, it wouldnt let me pre-record programs. it's noisy, so much to the extent that i have to switch it off AT THE PLUG before i sleep. Will overheat very easily. it's a cheap product, but honestly, pay a little more for something that will actually work. bought this from a different company, and they refused to give me a refund or replacement. STAY AWAY. HONESTLY

This DVD/VCR combi recorder has got to be the easiest machine ever to use to convert those precious videos to DVD. Very simplistic instructions, easy to set up and one touch button recording. I have converted all my videos to DVD using the slow play option from the drop down menu, just over 6 hours of recording on each DVD+RW disc. It allows recording to DVD+-RW, DVD+-R, DVD+R DL and VHS. It has the facility to edit each recording that you make i.e. name the film title or name of occasion recorded (birthday etc) . It also comes with video plus and has all the support for recording from digital video camcorders. It is compatible with CD, CD-R/-RW, MP3-CD, MP3-DVD, WMA. I'm sorry to be writing this, but I think it is fair you should know: I've had this since December and it has already been at a Daewoo specialist 3 times, including a hard-drive replacement. When it works, The receiver/tuner quality is not consistent - it's not particualrly good, which often goes even worse if the weather isn't just right (we live less than 10 miles from a major antenna, so it's not a signal problem). On top of that, with no apparent reason, the machine freezes every once in a while -- not triggered by anything in particular -- just stops responding to any button you press on the remote or on the machine itself. The cure for this is disconnecting from mains for up to 24 hours to allow the box to reset itself. I am extremely disappointed ... Read More:
