a great piece of kit works very well and its small size means it can be carried easily in one pocket. The small black cover for the microphone does in fact fall off, but a small rubber band holds it on well. In any event it is only useful out side in windy conditons.

Love this product! Delivery was very prompt. Received within a couple of days of ordering. Compact design without too many complicated buttons to play with. Very easy to set up and use. Got mine done in less than five minutes! Not bad for a middle aged guy! Instructions were very easy to follow. Once I'd put my glasses on! The range of the internal mic is suprisingly good. I could pick up people talking normally from 5 or 6 metres away! All that you would want from this kind of product and at a very reasonable price. I'd recommend this item to anyone looking for simplicity and value for money.

I bought this item as an aid to learning to play the button accordion. The tutor plays the tune and I can go home and practice, slowing down the music as necessary. Beats recording on my mobile any day. I have been to traditional music sessions and used it to record tunes which I downloaded to my PC then onto CD and gave to a lady who wanted to learn the tunes. It was so light I could carry in in my shirt pocket and with a bit of practice I could turn record on and off with no difficulty without removing it. I took it to a concert recently and sat at the front (having first obtained the permission of the virtuosos about to play. Appears fine at first, but the controls have a very annoying fault - fast forwarding or rewinding is done with the same buttons that jump to another file either forward or backward, and it's very easy to accidentally jump to the end of a recording - very irritating when you're 20 minutes in to a 90 minute interview. I agree with the other comments re: Digital Wave Player - it's a pain, and life would be far simpler if the recorder could be plugged into any PC and seen as an external hard drive from which to drag and drop audio files. Worse still, my VN-2100PC has now packed up altogether. It won't transfer files via DWP without an error message popping up halfway through the process, and it dies without warning even on fresh batteries. Useless.

I bought this as a study help - I'm doing a Medical Administration course and use the VN2100 for medical terminology. Love: Its handy size, clear and easy to use, storage space, 5 folder divisions, add-on mic. Great price too. Perfect for my needs, couldn't ask for more!

I used this machine for recording interviews as part of my social science studies and, although considerably cheaper when I bought mine, it is a good basic tape recorder with good sound quality and an excellent range. I don't see any point spending more money if this is the kind of thing you are going to use it for.

I've had to return this item because it only works in sockets that provide power to the microphone (my laptop doesn't). Although this was clear from the documentation that arrived with the mic, it wasn't stated in the online product/technical info. Therefore, purchase this item only if you are intending to use it in a powered microphone socket.

I am very pleased with this digital recorder, which I am using for recording one to one interviews for my Masters degree dissertation. I have not needed an additional microphone and have found the recordings to be very good quality, even when recorded outside with building works going on in the background. It is Mac compatible - I have used this feature to 'back-up' the recordings onto my Mac for peace of mind. I have not tried playing them back through my laptop but understand that Macs will need extra WMA software to do this. A really small, neat easy to use, good quality product at a good price.

I am a singer/songwriter and when I record tunes on the piano, it helps me memorise some melodies I created and I can always erase something if I don't like it. Worth the buy. Sony is a good brand!

The Olympus USA site has a better product description than anywhere I have seen, so take a look. The 'S' in WS-210S = Stereo (I think), so any product without an 'S' at the end is a mono recorder. Amazingly small and light. Files are stored in Windows Media Audio format so will play in Windows Media Player, without any need for conversion. It has a 'USB Direct' USB plug contained withit the recorder so it can be plugged directly into a pc. It does come with a short USB extension lead just in case your PC's USB port is tucked away.
