purchased one of these little gems and found the sound reproduction distorted .No matter what I tried and believe me I did it didn't solve the problem.Apple is NEXT TO USELESS when it comes to any support their solution to every problem is "reset it" after countless forums and going around in circles I presented the problem to Amazon who advised me to call Apple at NATIONAL RATE ..I was not happy to do this and to be fair to Amazon they refunded my money with no problem .I purchased a new 120 gig Ipod classic and that sounds a dream proving me right.To sum up Apple are a waste when it comes to any help have a look at how many help forums there are for people experiencing problems with their Apple products For such a big company they should ... I owned a Sony A818 walkman for a year and bought the the ipod a few months ago. First the positives: * large capacity (beats my previous Sony's 8GB) * looks nice Now the negatives: * sound quality is noticeably worse compared to my old Sony. No really, its that bad I thought there was something wrong with the IPod. As a test I played a 320kbit MP3 on the IPOD and a 192kbit wma on the Sony through an external Denon amp and Mission speakers and the Sony was easily the better sounding player, even with the lower quality audio file. So far, so good. I've owned my I-pod 160GB for about a week, so it's still early days. My needs are simple. I want my whole music collection (which is some 20,000 songs I guess)on one portable device. So far, I've crammed about 2,000 tunes on to it and the capacity bar shows that there's still a long way to go before I fill the thing up. I'm immensely impressed with the amount of space that this i-pod has. A few points - the volume is more than adequate! It's far louder than my Nano. I agree that the sound can be a little bright, although this can be counteracted with the EQ settings. The Cover Flow is a neat touch, although only about 30% of my album covers have been recognised. This is the third Apple Ipod that I have purchased having previously bought a 4th Gen 20gig Ipod and a 2nd Gen Shuffle for the gym.
