The time when one CPU isn't enough is nearly upon us and both Intel and AMD are trying to create and sell the best dual-core CPU they can. AMD have the X2 and Intel first had the PentiumD and now the Core2. Technically the Core2 is the better CPU, but once you've been with Intel, only AMD will do. Intel use a system incorporating a southbridge and a front-side bus to integrate their RAM with their CPU. Unfortunately as new CPU's are released the front-side bus has to get faster, leaving motherboards that are limited to a slower speed redundant. AMD incorporate a memory controller onto their CPU's and no frontside bus, meaning that as a general rule, if the CPU is the same socket type as the motherboard it'll work. Read More:
