This is a fantastic lens. I was originally looking at some other cheaper makes but so dam glad I parted with the extra money (which in truth was not that much more).
As the others write, the lens is Sharpe and very salient. A silly little thing which I really like is the fact you can have the autofocus setting on and still be able to manually help it a little without the usual horrible noise from the motor sounding like you're about to severely damage it. No idea if this is really allowed or not but seems not to damage it and allows me to get that required picture much faster.
In short, another happy owner of this lens. If you want to see some pics taken with it go to www.flickr.com/photos/marcoastesiano where you can see some ... Read More:

My brother recently got a Pixma 6600D and asked me to order a set of 6 carts. Having an account with Amazon I thought these were a good price but ouch - the postage ended up MORE than the price of the cartridges.
OK, I should have checked before clicking confirm but when postage on a small package tends to be a few pounds I expected something below a fiver.
Having had a heart attack I would feel guilty passing on the postage cost in full so I shall now end up out of pocket thanks to the unclear cost.

This lens is great, as you'd expect. It has such a wide aperture, it can take really good pictures indoors with no flash. If you want to take advantage of the short depth of field, make sure to focus on the subject you want; it can be so short (if you want) that even nearby items are out of focus.

I use it with a half-frame image sensor DSLR so the effective focal length is more. Sometimes you have to stand quite far away from a person to take a portrait.

The lens allows manual focus at the same time as automatic focus, but I find that the focus ring is a little loose. (these may be related). People tell me that doesn't matter, but I wish it was tight.

Good value printer but the cartridges are chipped so you have to use Canon cartridges. You can refill but the chips are all-seeing so even this is not a full solution.

Printer is easy to install. No major problems so far.

Uses ink every time its turned on - before its printed anything.

Not as good as my old warhorse Canon BJ3000.

If the email turns out to be incorrect and the postage cost ends up something more sensible I will retract but for now, cannot recommend.

I find this noisier and slower than my old scanner (a four year old cheap Epson Perfection 610). It wants to calibrate itself regularly which is slow and especially fiddly when trying to get negatives into the clumsy film adapter. It won't work connected to my powered USB2 hub which is very irritating as I have to unplug my printer to use the scanner now (didn't with Epson).

Initially it seemed to work with Image Capture but then I realised that half the features weren't available, such as 16 bit colour and film scanning. Needless to say the supplied software is unlike any software on your Mac (unless you still use OS 8.6). It is slow, unintuitive and astonishingly ugly. (Some of it is not universal for Intel so expect extra slow downs ... Read More:

This paper is good, very good in fact. I agree with everyone who says that if the printer's good, you'll get lab quality prints. The trouble is, with the cost of this paper, combined with the cost of the inks, it's much (MUCH) cheaper to have them printed professionally online. I pay 7p per 6x4, so why pay so much for Canon consumables just so they can be printed at home?

To make home printing a viable option, the prices of consumables must come right down. The manufacturers are ripping us off. Period.
