I was forced to buy a new scanner due to Epson not providing a driver for my old one now that I've got a new PC. It was hardly used and in perfect working order - a shameful waste. However, every cloud has a silver lining! What a little cracker the Canoscan 4400F is. Very easy to set up and simple to use. No 1" thick manual to wade through (as with my Epson model and I never did understand how to use it properly!) only an 8 page easy start guide. Just remember to take the mains cable out of the box before you take it up to the loft for storage and then plug it in! I didn't and couldn't understand why my PC didn't recognise the scanner - whoops. I had been installing rather a lot of devices on the new PC all at once so it was easily forgotten. ... Read More:

I have no quibble with the product (nor with the colour cartridge) but when I reached the checkout I was quite gobsmacked that the standard delivery charge was over £22 for the five cartridges I was about to order - totally unreasonable in my view. They simply multiply the "per cartridge" charge by the number ordered. Exorbitant and totally unreasonable. Don't buy these from Amazon or, rather, their Marketplace partner (memorymegastore).

I use this printer at work for my own use and love it, simple to use and quick, had it running for 2 month now and know it inside out. Thinking of buying it for home use as well now.

Just thought I would make the point to those of you who do not sell stuff on Amazon that the postage charges of the various items eg in this cage ink cartridges are imposed on you by Amazon and not alterable. That is why many sellers (including me) are selling their cartridges for 1p as we know and agree the postage is ridiculously high.

I had to buy this to replace my Packard Bell 1200 Plus scanner as it was not compatable with Vista (sigh), and PB were not bothering to write new drivers. The canon is a lot noiser and slower than the Packard Bell, but it was very cheap and produces good results. I am quite happy with the Canon (but not Packard Bell).

Just a quick note: the lens is uncannily sharp. Really, A2 prints as sharp as anything I've taken ever.
