well we wish the batterys did like in the adverts.but they don't so the toy rabbit falls of the cliff for me. ..my nice shiny finepix S9600 luvs batteries mmmm tasty, i put a micro drive in it and it ate a set of 4AA x 2800 batteries in no time as it has to be running all the time, so that got sold in favour of big 2 gig XD chips which have plummeted in price (even on Amazon) that solved battery staying power. As said before on other reviews a bit pricy but does not null & void warrenty. As for use well i just strap a long extension lead on to a bag and put the power unit in it for extended mobility even gets out into my garden, and can power my flash at the same time (the 9600 can use a remote flash gun). Lovely little camera and very easy and quick to use when out and about, Focusing fast hardly any lag and pic quality is unreal 800iso seems to be as good as my Nikon DSLR !!! Compact cameras these days are feature mad with way 2 many Pixels , if only Fuji or anybody made a Pro compact with a 6.3 super CCD processer type tecnology instead of the rubbish we have to put up with now i mean 12 meg pixels in a compact ! whats that all about do point and shooters make a lot of posters then ? Shame these older cameras are like hens teeth now as there much better i would rather have a Fuji F31FD then the overrated Canon G9 brick style rubbish pic quality camera ?! Had been using a Minolta SLR, and then bought this camera as got fed up with lugging it around and paying for getting pictures developed. If you want an affordable camera that takes great pictures & is easy to use then this is ideal. Would definately upgrade to another Fuji as this is reliable, works well with rechargeable AA batteries and has been a great little camera in the 2 years I've had it.

I've now had this camera for a couple of weeks and have to say it's so far so good. Having owned a couple of smaller Fuji models, I umm-ed and ahh-ed over whether to go for a larger bodied camera or just another small compact that could easily fit in my pocket. In the end, I eventually decided to go for the larger one on the assumption that if I ever want to get more into photography I'd need something with a little more "horse power" than a 3x optical zoom. It'll probably never happen but there's always time left yet. (I've also now bought a Samsung NV8 to take care of my compact needs which I'll review separately). I bought this camera on the basis that it was simple to use and good for someone whose photos aren't always the steadiest i.e. because of the double anti-blur function. However while the daylight photos are fantastic, night shots or any taken using the "party" or "night" modes do not give the same result, which is very disappointing. On the plus side, it really is only slightly bigger than a mobile phone and consequently fits handily into any purse or bag - perfect for parties, weddings etc. And the zoom function is great (but again, really only in clear daylight - night shots can be problematic). On the whole, I'd recommend it, but not if you tend to be a night-time photographer!
