I think this is a great product. I have been using it in Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, UK and Switzerland. Only one word: FANTASTIC.
I drove in Amsterdam, Segovia, Burgos, Madrid, Waterloo, the Val del Somme, Geneva, Zurich, Nize, Torino, London (I am foreign and London is really a pain)and Rome like a local, even I found cheaps hotels around!
Limitations: the conection which goes into the cigarrette light unscrew itself in the middle of the night (I had no idea this can happen and the pieces fell into the carpet I did not noticed) and I lost the power and luckily I found a petrol station to buy a map. Be careful as this things happens not only with Garmin but with others as well I have been told.
Sometimes gets silly, example ... Read More:

very good value for money, i have an nuvi 255wt and it fits like a glove, nice and simple tight fit this makes it very secure, the other reviews say its not made of leather, well mine looks and smells like leather, also said in earlier reviews that its not secure and that it can fall out, this is not true to be honest, its a very tight fit and will not come out of the case, overall a must have to go with your garmin sat nav.

3.Garmin Forerunner 305 Wrist Worn GPS Personal Training Device (With Heart Rate Monitor) from: Garmin

I use the 305 to train my horse for endurance riding competitions - the combined GPS and heart rate monitor work perfectly and are around 4 times cheaper than the equivalent Polar unit. The heart rate belt is easy to fix to my horse - I just attach it to the inside of the girth, wet my horses skin and then use vetwrap to secure it in place and I get 100% accurate heart rate readings. The fact that the unit reads the heart rate wirelessly and has a good reception range makes it ideal (and easy) to adapt to equine use. I can track avaerage speeds and distances which when you ride solo is a great plus as it can be difficult to judge your pace. The virtual trainer is great for competitions as I can set my speed/distance parameters and instantly know when ... Read More:

Bought the Nuvi 255WT just before driving to Italy this year and found it worked superbly. Did over 2500 miles without a hitch and saved any problems that I cause for my wife who is the usual map reader/route planner. Didn't need all the extras such as playing through car radio and connecting to phone so went for this as a good saving on Tom Tom. The traffic cameras and holdups info. worked equally well in Europe and the mapping there isn't just major roads. I can highly recommend it.

OK. This case has not got a flap and is therefore open at one end. I carried the case with Nuvi inside and the Nuvi came out and was damaged.

This is not a case for carrying your nuvi around, but it does the job, in a glove compartment.

I bought this even though newer versions were available, of this and the equivalent Tomtom. I'm glad I saved £35! It does everything I need. Directions are good, as are the volume, route calculation time (a few seconds), re-calculation time, (if you miss your turn), notification of speed camera's, etc. You can find and download lots of extra points of interest onto the unit or onto an SD card. You will need the USB cable to download the software update, which is all very straight-forward. You can enter a post-code, town, street name, or my favourite: co-ordinates. I went on Google Earth, found the place I wanted on the map (a National Trust car park), and entered the co-ordinates from the map. The Nuvi took me right there. To be honest, when I was investigating ... Read More:

I'm used to having a unit built-in to the car, but I wanted a SatNav for European & UK touring - contenders were Garmin Nuvi 760T, and its TomTom and viaMichelin equivalents. ViaMichelin went out of the SatNav business, so it was the (cheaper)Garmin. Once out of its box and charged, it needs to be connected to the internet and registered before you can do any updates or download speed camera data. It wouldn't talk to the Garmin website (talks to the PC ok), so on to tech support.... "Sometimes the registration software is flaky. I'll do it manually for you" Hmmm. Get an email telling me that its registered. Website says its not. Several times, over a couple of days. It's gone back for a refund.

A pity, as the graphics and menu layout are nice & clear, (although ... Read More:

*Have given the 405 1 star versus the 305, not versus other brands of GPS watch of which I have no experience - I used the 305 for 2 years and have been using the 405 for 4 weeks*

First the positives:
Improved satellite reception
Great looking
Very comfortable
Easy to take on and off

Now the negatives:

Before an activity:
You could switch off the 305 to preserve battery life, this is not possible with the 405. The 405 displays the time permanently, albeit using a small amount of power. This means you must charge your device no more than 2-3 days prior to your activity.

During an activity:
The touch bezel is useless when any moisture is present - when I say any I mean ANY. This means you can't scroll through ... Read More:

Having read the reviews and seen the benefits of my friend's TomTom in France last year, I went for the Garmin, having read the reviews. Generally, I am very happy with the Garmin but, despite the settings being ok, it kept directing me on C roads between towns in France, when D roads are more suitable; for those unsure of C roads, they are basically a single lane country track, and there are quite a few tractors in France! Despite this, I am happy with the Garmin, although the 2008 European maps are not as up to date as my 2008 AA France road atlas.
