Well worth paying the extra few pounds for the Garmin Venture compared to yellow model. You get 20 routes vs 1, a PC interface cable, a better user interface and easy to use joystick control on the front. The unit is very light, easy to use and has useful statistics and information for walking. It's amazing to see such a small device gathering signals from up to 12 satellites then performing complicated calculations in just a few seconds. Great fun.

I purchased this gps principally for use on a cycle so I also obtained the recomended Garmin handlebar clip which mates up by a part screwed to the gps battery cover. After my first ride of circa 60 miles on reasonably surfaced roads, the battery cover was visibly loose and hence no longer a weatherproof seal. This looseness also tends to eject the memory card I have fitted to extend the mapping. I should think it is an excellent navigation device for rambling, but the mechanical weaknesses make it a poor choice for use on a cycle.

There are 2 or more Garmin PC interface cables. The descriptions are unclear about what one is for what. This one is Garmin part 010-10141-00 and is the wrong plug for the eTrex which requires part 010-10206-00 . Only the fine print in the full description states this.

I work in the oil and gas exploration industry and so spend a fair amount of time either getting to a particular point or marking a point of geology for reference in the office. We have access to top of the line Trimble equipment but just about everyone who is going to the field stops by to see if they can borrow the legend. Why?? well its easy to use tough and light weight and gets us the accuracy that we need for scout work. Just wish that there were maps of more of the out of the way places or that we could download the topo maps more easily but then we would have to pay a lot more for the system. Best field equipment I have bought in a while.
