71.Garmin Dashboard Disk from: Garmin
January 17, 2008
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

>>More Details
Electronics : Garmin Dashboard Disk
Off The Bookshelf's Price: £13.00

These disks are very useful, and usually one comes with the Sat Nav when you buy it. Stick it to your dashboard and the sat nav can be mounted on it, closer to you (easier to touch the screen) and with less chance of it falling off than if attached to a cold windscreen. However, if you change cars, you won't be able to remove it without tearing a hole in your dashboard so you'll need another.

But £13 for a sticky piece of plastic !!!!

I have used this for a while and found it very effective. Then one day I hit a (speed) bump and the unit fell on to the road. It wasn't damaged, luckily, and I think I may not have clipped it properly into the holder (I noticed subsequently that if I put it in carelessly it wasn't properly secured). Anyway, to be sure I now use the short lanyard that comes with the unit so that, if it does fall out again, it can't fall far.

I was after a cycle computer that was easy to setup and didnt have wires trailing over the bike or a magnet attached to the wheel. GPS was therefore the way to go so having looked around I went for this unit. I didnt go for the more expensive Edge units as they had extra functionality I wasnt interested in. I also already own a Garmin in-car sat-nav so knew the product should be good. The system is easy to setup and you do have to update the software in the unit itself as well as the Garmin training centre that you load onto your PC/laptop. You create a user and bike profile so the computer knows the combined weight of you and your bike, this is so it can show you how many calories you are burning as you cycle. Initially the unit will take a while ... Read More:

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 255 after hours, days and weeks of reading reviews and comparing features! I wanted it for our first trip to Spain, where we would be hiring a car. There seemed to be many places it did not recognise and, at times, it was very frustrating when it kept leading us round the same route, telling us to go down a one way street the wrong way, when we were trying to get it to direct us to a car park. Another time, it lead us off the beaten track, down a dusty lane way out in the sticks, telling us to turn down another lane that didn't exist and may have never existed(!) and we eventually had to stop and turn around and go back on ourselves. That said, it was also very helpful on many occassions and did take a lot of stress out of the driving. ... Read More:

I have had the Garmin GPS60 for a while before getting this antenna and I was alway disappointed by the poor reception inside a car and in dense forest. However since I plugged in the antenna I have been able to get amazing reception, even on the top floor of my house!

I Highly recommend this product.

80.Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS Navigation System With European Mapping from: Garmin

Electronics : Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS Navigation System With European Mapping
I replaced my Tom Tom 300 Go with the Garmin Nuvi 350T which has now irritated me so much I have already replaced it with a Tom Tom 530T. The Nuvi 350T forces you to accept a safety message each time you start it, then it doesn't look for satellites until after you have typed in the destination on a non-qwerty keyboard, swapping back and forth to a separate numeral keyboard as necessary, and then is slow to lock on. It gives verbal lane and roundabout exit information too late for safety, uses feet and not yards, does not change volume with speed, and doesn't show your actual speed or the distance to destination. Its display is not as clear as the Tom Tom and it doesn't show a diagram of the next junction on the main display. The sound is difficult to turn on and ... Read More:
