Linksys WRT54GL-UK, Wireless Access Point Router w/ 4-Port Switch, Black/Blue
Had it up and running in 20 minutes on Virgin Cable. Set up was easy to follow, and I did not encounter any difficulty.
I've been using it constantly over the past few months without any issues.
Connected to it are the following:
4 desktop PCs (2 are wireless - 2 using Ethernet cable) 2 Laptops (wireless) 1 Xbox (Ethernet cable), I PS3 (wireless) and 1 wireless internet radio. I know it's a lot, but I have a family the size of The Waltons!!.

I am on Virgin's 10Mb broadband. The average speed I get on the ethernet wired PCs is 9.5Mb and on the wireless Laptops I get 6.5Mb which is great.
Over all a great piece of gear, that ... Read More:

I rarely review items on Amazon, but felt compelled to write a short review of this product to counter the other rather negative reviews.

I bought this, after reading high praise on various websites such as pc pro, to replace an aging BT voyager router.

This is not a router for the technically timid. Setup involves an awkward looking web-based config - however, once you obtain the right settings from your broadband provider the fields are easy to fill - in fact, for me the default settings "just worked". There is a CD based config package which is PC only. As a Mac user I couldn't use it. Perhaps this makes the config easier.

One further potential problem for the wifi newbie. The unit is provided without wireless ... Read More:

My wife, who is a complete computer novice, had Virgin Media Cable Broadband setup whilst I was out of the country on business. The technician from Virgin Media was very helpful and advised my wife to buy this Linksys wireless router plus a USB adapter for the desktop PC upstairs that is unable to detect a wireless network, unlike our laptops that can. This meant that the technician did not have to stapple an ugly cable all the way upstairs. (Virgin Media technicians are not allowed to drill through walls, but I suppose you could get them to run the cable and then get out the BlacknDecker when they've gone.) Anyway, installing the Wireless router was a daunting prospect for my wife, when she opened the box and found the disc and instructions... so she ... Read More:

Havin bought two TP-LINK adsl routers in the space of a week only for them to be absolutely rubbish I plumped for the LINKSYS-200WAG.It took about ten minutes to setup 1st as a wired connection then as a wireless connection to my first computer(laptop)then to my home PC via my wireless adapter. The instructions was simple and straight forward it pretty much did what it said on the tin cannot fault it.

I am a typical power user, running an RSS reader, iTunes, FTP and IM all at once. In my house we have 2 laptops, a desktop PC, an Xbox 360, a Wii and a DS all connecting to this access point, it worked fine for about a week but when using any sort of program with heavy connection usage (like an FTP program or P2P application) it dies due to a fault which Linksys has fixed with an update to every one of their routers EXCEPT this one.

Occasionally, it also decides to not let new any devices connect that aren't already connected. So my Mac, the desktop and my 360 could all connect but my dad's laptop couldn't. Changing the mode of encryption managed to fix this, though I do not know why.

Avoid at all costs, very, very, terrible.

I bought one of these intending to install a custom firmware that would allow me to use it as a music server on the LAN and over the web. I got it up and running on my network with the standard firmware in no time, but when I switched it off in order to attach a disk drive, it failed to restart - all I got was the power light, none of the system LEDs would come on, and the thing didn't boot. Tried resetting, nothing worked.

I suspect it was a heat-related failure, even though it'd only run for about a half hour - I noticed when switching it off that the plastic casing was hot to the touch. There's little ventilation on the unit body.

My advice - avoid.

I have a Virgin Media broadband connection and I had problems getting this router to work. The minimal documentation that comes with the router states that LinkSys "Highly recommend the use of the setup CD on an initial setup". Thinking this was going to get me up and running nice and easily I inserted the CD and eagerly worked my way through the setup wizard.

An hour later I had pulled out the rest of my hair and all I could make it do was tell me I didn't have an internet connection or, even more frustrating, continually hang the PC. Feeling rather annoyed I did some research and found I was not the only problem to experience this problem. The recommended solution in each case was to configure the router manually making only a few minor changes to the ... Read More:

This product took about 10 minutes to set up and so far so good. I would've given this five stars except the software that came with it and should be used to set it up was unreadable on the screen, all the questions and heading were in the wrong place and so I had to really concentrate on what I was typing in where, However this product is a real delight so far. I will run some tests on it to see the range and keep you posted.

This bit of kit is great! Installed two on a home network in less than ten minutes. The only thing I can see people making a mistake on is on the CD wizard it asks for the Gateway of the Network. This is the IP address of the wireless router that you are trying to extend.

To find the address on a Windows Machine Click Start > Run, Type cmd and press OK. In the new window type ipconfig and the default gateway is the number you are after. This should be the only stumbling block for non techs in the wizard that I can see.
