My wife, who is a complete computer novice, had Virgin Media Cable Broadband setup whilst I was out of the country on business. The technician from Virgin Media was very helpful and advised my wife to buy this Linksys wireless router plus a USB adapter for the desktop PC upstairs that is unable to detect a wireless network, unlike our laptops that can. This meant that the technician did not have to stapple an ugly cable all the way upstairs. (Virgin Media technicians are not allowed to drill through walls, but I suppose you could get them to run the cable and then get out the BlacknDecker when they've gone.) This product took about 10 minutes to set up and so far so good. I would've given this five stars except the software that came with it and should be used to set it up was unreadable on the screen, all the questions and heading were in the wrong place and so I had to really concentrate on what I was typing in where, However this product is a real delight so far. I will run some tests on it to see the range and keep you posted.

This is our first wireless and we have hooked into an existing Linksys wired router. Thought that was it but there are so many options and not understanding all the jargon makes it not so obvious which to choose. This is why I gave 3 stars - as the hardware works fine but the instructions and setup CD just leave you hanging if it doesn't all work perfectly. So a few tips for dummies like me: 1. Turn off your firewall during setup; 2. If the CD setup cannot find your access point but all lights are working (as well as a light on the wired router), open a browser and enter the IP address - if you don't know what it has been set to - open the admin window of your wired router using the IP address of that - go to Status ->Local Network -> click on DHCP client ... I wanted to watch my DVDs and .avi movie files from the comfort of my lounge so treated myself to a 32" Flatscreen TV and the Linksys DMA2100. It is quite easy to setup which is, and the interface mimics that of Media Centre as it should, however here are a few issues with the unit you should be aware of before purchasing. I have backed up all of my DVD's on to my harddisk on my Vista PC (as the unconverted original .VOB files to keep the quality) so I can watch them when I like using Media Centre on there. I have had this a week or so an I am a little frustrated with it. For the record I'm using this on NTL/Virgin with a Vista box. It's small, light and stylish. None of these are important to me. Set up was virtually unneccessary, just plugged it in and it ran first time. The only thing I did was to change the password (always recommended). All was great. Then I inserted to the CD that came with it to see what else I could do. The wizard ran and after about the fifth screen internet connection was dropped. Couldn't get it back. Tried the hardware reset on back. Didn't seem to work. Tried the software reset and that did work. Happy, or so I thought. Well, yes, it gives you four USBs from one. But like other reviewers I found the slow transfer speeds with camera, wireless stick and mp3 player annoying - that little message that comes up saying 'this attachment could work much faster...' can really get you down. I guess the key is to use it for things where speed is not crucial and leave the original USB ports for things that need speed. But you can buy better.
