Netgear have made an astonishing product here. I have never seen a better unmanaged desktop switch nor a cheaper one! It will automatically detect if you are using a straight-through cable and not a crossover to connect to another switch and the lights are pretty self-explanatory so there isn't really any need for a manual. Couldn't be better.

This is rubbish!

It works intermittently, fails for no reason and then won't reconnect. Sometime it works for days on end, others it goes in 10 minutes.

30% of the time you can unplug / plug the cable in again, the other 70% of the time you have to restart the computer. There is no other way.

The router's fine it's just the USB adapter.

The phone support offers no help / doesn't acknowledge there's a flaw with this product.

Just bought the Lm Technologies 802.11g Wireless G USB Network Adapter from Amazon for £9 ish which is far, far superior. It actually works!

Have been using this adapter on a desktop pc with windows XP and the standard extension cable for over a year with no problems. Installed the software on two desktops and it worked fine with both, talking to the netgear router it came bundled with. Since we upgraded to WPA encryption, I needed to purchase another for a second desktop machine, as the old card couldn't support higher encryption. After much deliberation, I opted again for this adapter. I've just plugged it straight in with the existing software from the previously purchased adapter and its working fine.

It sounds like the more recent problems people have had are because of drivers. I've not had that because I'm using the software I installed about 18 months ago, rather ... Read More:

I chose this item on the basis of the overwhelming number of favourable reports. Indeed it does seem to do the job well. My only criticism is that the description and functions of the front panel LED displays in the set-up manual, in the set-up procedure and on the device itself are inconsistent. This misled me, so causing considerable delay in what could have been a 20-minute set-up time as claimed. Anyone using the Wizard for setting up should NOT expect the LED, variously referred to as "Internet" or "test", to light up when the DG834 is initially connected up to the ASDL line, the Ethernet port and the power lead.

Works fine for me with both PC and Laptop, XP and Vista. It is not quite plug and play, but not far off. The installation disk does most of the hard work, but depending what you're doing, there is some advanced configuration to do. e.g. encryption, ip routing, access permissions....... The odds are that if you know you need to play with the configuration you'll know how to change it! The connection to my provider is solid an reliable, the wireless range is good (no problems with internal walls etc...) and it looks cool too!

I completely recommend this card, but want to offer my story to give guidance to others.

I bought this card to replace my 54Mbps Cable & Wireless card, as I wanted faster connectivity.

When I first installed the card, using the installation CD it comes with, there were two options:-

1.) Use the Netgear Smartwizard. (recommended)
2.) Let Microsoft Windows configure the card.

I chose the option that was highlighted as being recommended, Netgear, but in doing this upon "successful" installation, I had no IP address, but somehow I was still accessing the internet, then it kept crashing and then eventually it didn't work. I rang my ISP but because the internet was working through my modem, they would ... Read More:

17.Netgear EVA8000 Digital Entertainer (HDTV Ready) from: Netgear

Electronics : Netgear EVA8000 Digital Entertainer (HDTV Ready)
Looking for a way to watch your Freeview TV programmes recorded on your computer? As at November 2008 the EVA8000 doesn't support the .dvr-ms file types used by Windows Media Center to record Freeview programmes, so they don't play back properly - the sound stutters and is out of sync with the picture. (Although a firmware upgrade might solve this in the future.)
You also need to be aware that unless you have a very strong signal from your wireless router, the EVA is very slow to scan and download media; a good wired connection is essential - especially for HD material or large photos.
It's also very important to apply any firmware update from the Netgear site before you try to use the unit.
This is a product that promises much but can be difficult ... Read More:

Take it out the box, plug in a cable from your router, power it up and you've got 4 extra inputs into your network. Great price. Looks fine and flashes to let you know it's doing it's thing. What more could you want!

First point: This product only works "out of the box" if you have no security set up on your wireless network. All the reviews saying things like "I just plugged it in and it worked" are coming from people who have never bothered to alter the default settings on their networks, so we should all stand outside their houses and use the free internet access! :-)

Second point: I spent ages failing to get this thing to work, and I consider myself reasonably knowledgeable about networking. It worked fine if I disabled all the security on my wireless network and went back to all the default Netgear settings (SSID etc), but I was unable to access the extender's Web UI for setting up the security settings to match my existing network. Setting a fixed IP address and then trying ... Read More:

I purchased this print server 4 weeks ago, and the installation disc won't work with setting my printer up, an Epson Sylus Photo R300.
The printer is on their compatible list.
Since then I've spent the last 4 weeks going backwards and forward to their online, and voice technical support, which I'm quite frankly appalled with.It takes at least 24 hours for someone to get back to you, and each time it's someone different, that I've gone round and round in circles since.
I'm pretty close to just selling this on Ebay, bacause it's no use to me whatsoever - I suppose I could use it as an expensive coaster!.
