If you seek effortless set-up and a device that works according to the manual, look elsewhere! Having spent the best part of a day trying to get this thing working, I have put it back in the box and will only retrieve it when I have been very bad and wish to punish myself! I don't understand how a product this shoddy and non-functional has survived on the market. The software doesn't work and, unless one wishes to spend ones life printing out Windows test pages (it does those perfectly but little else!)it has no place near your printer. I had hoped to be able to share my ("compatible" so Netgear assured me) device with my son but it is going to be kinder on us both for me to buy a second printer after all... It serves as a huge disincentive ... Read More:

I bought a D-link 604-t wireless router some 4-5 years ago.
It's been an intermittant pain in the a** ever since. I tried once again last week to connect the Wii through it and again it was no use.
Somewhere along the line I messed up something because I permanently lost wireless connection.

I purchased the netgear on Monday, Tuesday it arrived and within 20 minutes, my wireless was back & the Wii fired up online for the kids.
So now the kids have online games with the wii & I have good wireless internet connection.

However, I dropped a boob because I was under the impression that the netgear could be plugged straight into the telephone connection.

So What I have done is connected the ... Read More:

I bought a refurbished unit for £40 and a couple of matching WN121T usb adapters for my desktop PCs. I upgraded from a Belkin Pre-N router which was struggling to reach through two floors to my laptop and Squeezebox Duet controller. I found the speed and reliability of the connection much improved even for my laptops and Duet controller using the older 802.11g networking.

One of the PCs with the WN121T usb adapter connected at an indicated 162Mbps even through two floors which was a useful improvement over the 108Mbps of the Belkin router. Also the PC furthest away struggled to get any connection with an 802.11g adapter and now connects reliably around 25-39Mbps.

Purchased a refurbished model for just under £25, everything was set up with ease but had a slight problem upgrading the firmware (And it comes loaded with N American firmware instead of worldwide) Netgear's website had nothing on the V4 router I got so couldn't find any updates for the firmware at all when browsing their website, so I Googled the model number (Along with V4 at the end of the model number, so just check underneath the router to see what version it is) and got a link to software support page for the router on Netgear's site.

Downloaded the worldwide firmware (Won't be able to change the region from American if it's loaded with American firmware) and installed it. My bedroom PC, 360, PS3 and my sisters and dads laptops ... Read More:

Purchased a new computer with vista which my old modem did not have drivers for. Netgear comes with no written instructions, just a CD Rom wizzard which failed to work with Vista. After several days of frustration I established the problem was that the Netgear box would not connect with my IP provider. I needed a couple of IT expert colleagues to finally get me running. Now its working, its fantastic, however, 3 stars for the set up nightmare.

I've had my FVS114 for about 2 years and it has been very unreliable. When it locks up, which happens for no discernable reason, the only way to get it working is to switch it off and then on again. You cannot log into the web interface when it locks up and it will not even accept any pings; leaving it for half an hour or so, in the hope that it might sort itself out, is also in vain. Sometimes it will lock up repeatedly on the same web page, meaning you simply cannot visit the site, sometimes it is a one-off thing.
I had thought that perhaps it was just me, that there was something peculiar about my home network, but I have found the same problem reported by many other users on the dslreports.com forum. Some suggest downgrading to the earliest available ... Read More:
