I've owned a pair of Opticron Imagic 8 x 42 binoculars for a number of years. They are good, general use binoculars. My most intensive use has been on safari in South Africa and birdwatching. They are perfect for both of these. The image is crystal clear and bright. The focus is very sharp. At 23 ounces (650 grams) they are not super lightweight, but my arms have never got tired when using them. When I tried these binoculars out in the shop against other binoculars they won hands down for size, clarity of view and feeling comfortable in your hands. My wife uses them regularly and has quite small hands but thinks they are perfect. Very simply they do their job well and I've never regretted buying them.

I bought these binoculars for my wife in Dec 2005 for the occasions when we go out walking together. I have a similar pair of Opticrons (sold as Arena by LCE) and have been really impressed with them. The Countrymans are a bit like a German car or a Swiss watch - they are unspectacular but do the job better than almost anything else. If you are used to binoculars from the high street costing, say, £100, you will be astonished by the step up to this quality. Even with 42mm objectives the image is brighter than with the naked eye. Colours are vibrant. Using these binoculars is a pleasure and they look 'professional' enough not to make you look like a beginner if you visit a bird club hide.
