To me this is a product designed to allow a laptop to be used on your lap! I agree it is not as good as some competing products when it comes to using a laptop on your desk. However, as a platform to sit in the living room and surf/work on a laptop it is unsurpassed. Firstly, in this kind of use it forms a stable base that seems to fit one's natural contours and the hinged mouse pad frees you from the need to use the laptops (inevitably vague) built in pointing device/pressure pad. The mouse pad simply folds back into the unit when not in use or during transportation maintaining a footprint of roughly the same size as a laptop (15.1"). The bag has a nice interior lining with two straps for holding the laptop and a nifty screen protector. Be warned though - THIS IS A 15.4" LAPTOP BAG! The Port Designs website recommends this bag for screen sizes up to 15.4 inch (the bag is also labelled as 15.4") making it a super tight fit for 17" laptops. The dimensions of 4003005 are a bit optimistic as the bag is very tight at the corners where the leather bounding is sewn on. Therefore a 17" laptop is a very snug fit, and the only room left is in the slim front pocket, which should just accomodate an average sized mouse and power adapter. All-in-all it is a lovely little bag and fine for people like me who will just use it for storage purposes. ... Read More:

I bought this bag for its flexibility, but it looks great too. If you have a 17" laptop, there is a removable pouch to put it in. Obviously when not using it for a laptop, the pouch is taken out and there is space for files, folders, books, mp3s phone... Whatever you want to carry around. The build quality is fantastic and the stap is padded and very comfortable. Delivery was very swift too - by city link.

I didn't get off to a very good start with this stand I have to admit. It took me almost 10 minutes fighting with the catch on one of the compartments (which contained the USB lead) to get it open and breaking a nail in the process. There are no English instructions for some reason, so I had to hunt for the little round socket to plug the other end of the USB lead in - easy enough but annoying. I had read other negative reviews of this product with respect to the comfort of the stand whilst using it on your lap and I have to say I agree - it is quite uncomfortable, you would think maybe a rubber strip along the edge or something similar, would have been incorporated as the stand tends to dig into your legs.
