I knocked a star off because I've had a few problems after updating the device. After a month of non working solutions from tomtom support they finally looked at the device and replaced the mainboard. Since then I've had no problems. Overall it's a very good product, I use it often and there's rarely any map problems. (Which are usually only small things that are easy to correct yourself). Defiantly worth buying to put your mind at ease, it's always nice to know if you get lost you can just get it out.

I had the TomTom Go 700, which is a fantastic piece of kit, so when my daughter moved to University I thought I would treat myself to a new TomTom 720 and give my old 700 to my daughter. Having waited over a month for delivery I was sure that it would have the latest maps - however on my first journey the first two roundabouts were missing and the third was there but it treated it as a turn. Not a good start, but then again this is Norfolk and not so well populated. The traffic thing is a bit bizarre. I can't say I really understand it. I've had the 520T for 6 months now. It was my first Sat Nav and I'm very pleased. The main device is very easy to use and has been genuinely helpful, even though I rarely drive long distance without a passenger. The plug-in traffic aerial only gives information on major roads like motorways and hasn't always been accurate, so next time I'd get just the 520 without Traffic (Tom Tom are bringing a new Traffic add-on to the UK next year, which promises to be much better, though more expensive). I'd give the 520 itself five stars and the current Traffic aerial two stars, hence four overall.

I have previously commented on the Tom Tom One XL. In my opinion , when it was launched , it was an excellent sat nav. Unfortunately I felt let down by the flimsy quality of the mount. My opinion remains unchanged a year on !

This item is quite simply not fit for purpose. I bought it in order to attach to the dashboard of my Focus - not the flattest dashboard in the world, granted, but I figured that with a good suction cup and a lock it might work. Apparently not - this refused flat out to attach to anything at all inside the car except the windscreen, which is what I wanted to avoid (the tell-tale rings on the windscreen being a beacon to all would-be thieves and vandals). It doesn't hold it's suction well either - on the completely flat desk at work it won't stay attached for more than a few seconds before inexplicably falling over (even when there's no sat nav on it). The Tomtom One traffic did exactly as it promised and worked sraight from the box, was very easy to use and provided accurate and easy to follow directions. The first journey I tested it on was 200 miles long and it didn't let me down once. The traffic function was invaluable and worked smartly and efficiently, saving me time and sanity. I think some users expect the impossible from a gadget, and of course the traffic facility will have its limitations. If there is no faster route around the traffic the tomtom will tell you this and you will have to sit in the queue. There is no magic button to make traffic evaporate!
