I can't believe nobody has reviewed this bad boy yet. I bought this tripod years ago and it has lasted well. It is basically a mini version of a full size-tripod, three section legs, vertically extending central column and three way head. Although it is pretty light the leg sections are of metal and the whole thing offers steady enough support for a small SLR or creative compact. It even has a quick release plate but I am wary of over-tightening it as it feels a bit 'gummy' when you screw it in hard. The tripod is particularly handy for real low shots where you still need support (such as landscape) as you are shooting just a few inches off the ground. Of the batch of video equipment I recently bought (HDV camcorder, sound recorder, tripod, tapes), this is the only one that I've been disappointed with. From the forums and reviews I spent hours reading I was hoping for something better, but with nothing to compare to I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. As soon as I tried it I started finding fault - it's not rubbish but it's not the precision piece of engineering I was expecting. Having read all reviews for this product I really expected something a bit different. I wasn't let down as it has a brilliantly smooth panning action, 3 position legs and fully extends for taller people. Why the one star then you may ask? When I tested it on the level, after sorting out the problem of getting the legs to the right angle, I started panning and ..it went downhill! I looked st the central column and found it was off the vertical by about 5 degrees on one leg. So I checked all legs were out and fully clicked into place, but to no avail. So I then sent it back. It is a good product. Not perfect but absolutely worth the price. Sturdy enough for everyday use. Avides offers the cheapest price on amazon so it is good choice. I was waiting 2 days longer than in my 'delivery estimated time' but I can recommend it anyway.

I have just purchased this tripod and am extremely happy with it. My only two small reservations for not giving it a five star rating are the absence of an onboard spirit level and the fact that it is a little lightweight! I shoot DV of railway subjects and need a tripod which can pan slowly and without juddering. The pan action on this is absolutely wonderful. It is beautifully smooth. Given the fast moving nature of my subjects a tripod also needs to be capable of sitting on one spot without being blown away, hence my comment about the weight. However, for the money, this little beauty pretty much fits the bill perfectly. For a tripod under £30 I give it 4 stars. Benefits - Comes with a carry bag, light weight, has a quick release plate, and is compact, and cheap. I have used it a few times at night in London and have gotten very sharp results. Downsides - When I have tried using it when there was a meduim to large wind then the tripod was not stable enough to produce sharp results. There is no spirit level to know when the tripod is level - which is fustrating when doing long exposures and you get back home and notice the image is not 100% level. Is annoying to bend down and look through the view finder of the camera - makes it hard to frame the shot - but this will be same problem for most compact tri pods. Read More:
