I fit this drive in my Topfield 5800 PVR last week as an upgrade to a previous 750GB Samsung SATA drive! The Samsung drive was first class but this one trumps every aspect of my old drive (including capacity and price): It is quieter (almost inaudible), faster to spin up/down, cooler to the touch and of course less power hungry. I use a Sabrent SBT-STDB SATA to IDE Port Mini Converter which has worked successfully in my Toppy with both my Samsung and my new Western Digital drives. If you decide to get this drive for your Toppy make sure you read the relevant sections of the toppy.org.uk for further details on how to upgrade your hard disc drive.

I also received my Hard-drive packed like a book! Slammed through my letterbox! I dread to think what sort of throwing about it had during its journey, as there wasn't even a 'Fragile with care' sticker on the box! Lets face it this is not the way to send a hard-drive through the post - there was barely enough protection (a single layer of cardboard) to protect a book. I have always been most impressed with Amazons SuperSaver Delivery packing in the past - but I shall not use it again! How's my Hard-drive? Well it appears to be working OK - but who can say whether this has had an effect on the life of the item - only time will tell. BUYERS BEWARE!!

Swapped out an 80GB Seagate Barracuda for this Western Digital 500GB baby. Easy enough to install: Acronis True Image, straight swap, restore the disk image and resize the disk partitions (using EASEUS Home Partition Manager - a free utility). I don't think it's quite as quiet as the one its replaced but it's not quite Whisper Quiet. That said it's nothing like as bad as a Maxtor I had in a Dell which sounded like someone rattling a bag of marbles. Being OEM you just get the drive, no cables, no jumpers, no instructions (though you can find them on the WD website itself under Support). Just a quick review, I purchased this to upgrade the hard drive in my 60gb PS3. It took about five minutes to fit and works perfectly. Instead of backing up my whole hard drive prior to the installation I merely copied my save games onto a memory card. Once I had fitted the replacement hard drive I simply copied the game data back and installed the games from the disks. Really easy and this hard drive works a treat, noticeably faster than the original hard drive (a seagate for info) when installing games such as Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry. No heat or performance issues. The PS Store keeps a back up of your downloads/purchases, which I simply re installed leaving my system running over night. This drive runs so quietly. The laptop was not noisy before, but now.... ! Amazing quality - highly recommended.

bought this drive to fit as a second drive in a Acer aspire 7520, fitted without a problem and now gives plenty of storage for photo's, music etc. Runs very quiet, would recommend this drive. The only negative point, why dont they supply mounting screws?
