Electronics : Western Digital 250GB "My Book" Premium 1C External Hard Drive USB2.0/Firewire
I bought this 2 years ago. In the beginning it was hard to use it. It wasn't plug and play. I had to go on the the WD website to download files to format my Book into another file system because It didnt allowed me to transfer files more than 1 gig.
Nowadays, I can still use it but many times my workstation PC cannot recognize My Book and I have to turn on/off computer many times as well as plug and umplug either or both firewire and USB cables(I face problems especially with firewire). I already downloaded many updated drives and utilities for this WD My Book so far and there is still a question mark in the Device Manager...
So....if you are expecting trouble and nightmares, you will find it....

I bought this to make a bootable backup drive for my ibook only to find that it wouldn't work. When I contacted WD support they said this unit does not work as a boot drive on a vast number of different mac models including mine. I think this is atrocious considering it is marketed directly as mac users and one of the main reasons a mac user wants a firewire drive is to make a bootable clone for quick and full disaster recovery.

As a mass storage device it works fine but if you want a disk that is truly mac compatible I would recommend the lacie rugged which I have now had to buy. Thankfully the lacie works fine where the WD does not.

Well I thought that WD was a reliable brand in hard drives and external hard drives. I was mistaken. My first external hard drive was on WD 500GB MyBook, it died after 8 months of use. I managed to save most of my data into another WD external hard drive that I bought, this time 1TB. This one died just 3 months after the purchase...

The worse is that I own a third one WD 1 TB external drive...It has not failed me yet, but after reading all those reviews in the net I do not believe that it will last much longer. Also one friend of mine that has bought one WD 500Gb had the same problem after a few months of use.

I am sending my drives to WD for replacement, but I am not optimistic at all that they will not fail me again.. ... Read More:
