Ok, I realise that 'random' is, by definition, a pretty difficult quality to measure, but let me tell you this. I've got the 20gb version of this admittedly smart looking toy. Sound is excellent (as you'd expect from Sony) but it's SO DAMN FRUSTRATING when, amongst 1800 songs, the same ones get played time after time. Examples: certain songs get played at least twice in a 1.5 hr session. Skipping one track seemingly adds to the likelihood of a song heard only half an hour ago being played again. Several tracks are played at least 5 times during 5 x 3 hour sessions. I'm not making this up. Now obviously this could be a problem with all MP3 players - I don't know. I've had mine for about 18 months now, and have put it through vigorus use, and yesterday it finaly gave up the go. overall i think that this is a very good player, that is easy to use (once you work out how to use the touch pads) that has easy to use software, that was easy to install (even on my rubbish comp, that doesn't like any thing new). However i did have a few minor problems, i found that it was very slow to load and that every so often (about once a month)i had to reboot the library (which took forever). I also found that the headphone wire broke very easily and have had to replace them twice, but don't let this stop buying them because this is still a top notch player that is great to use.

This is a fantastic gadget, the sound quality is excellent, its easy to use and looks great too. Its very easy to create multiple playlists using the iTUNES software included. I really like the way iPOD communicates info back to the computer like the number of times a track has been played, so they are kept up to date and added to the number of times theyve been listened to on the computer itself. It has an enormous storage capacity, I shall be taking it on holiday loaded up with at least 1200 songs and 8 audio books and it still wont be full. The only problem I am having is that my kids now want one too! can't recommend highly enough.

No1: the connect software If you have a problem with this software, which alot of people do there is a quick remedy to fix it. DONT USE IT! There is another piece of software released by sony called sonic stage 2.3. This is what i use. I've had my iriver H10 for about 2 years. I replaced the headphones that are supplied with a pair of Sony earbuds. The sound quality is amazing. The problem with this player is with the interface and USB connection. I've had several freezes and had to pull out the battery to get it going again. You can only delete music when it's connected to a computer via the USB cord and even then the music folders still appear in the iriver menu but the sound files are gone. Currently the USB cord is totally faulty. I have to sit for twenty minutes every time I want to add some music and switch on the iriver, plug the cord in and then into the computer. Bad points i)The battery life is only 8 hours for the 6gb version. ii)Connect isn't really a very good or stable piece of software - go for Sonic Stage, it's much better. iii) I think if you go jogging it may crash as it has moving parts e.g. hard disk. Good points i)it has Chinese and Japanese characters so you can listen to your asian music without thoses blocks replacing the writting. ii)sound quality is really good. iii)it's looks swell iiii) It's much smaller than the 20gb version, so it fits nicely in your pocket.
