I bought one of these from a well known auction site for about £80. It's a good all rounder and gives me a bit more scope than my nifty fifty EF-50mm. I've produced some really good photos from it with great colour and detail. Agree with other reviewers about it excelling when it's stopped down, it does take a while to figure out how to get the best from it. Generally very happy with this lens.

I had to buy a new printer as my old Canon i865 was not Vista compatible. My shortlist was the Canon Pixma iP4500 and this Canon Pixma iP100. Both featured excellent photo quality printing, and were comparable in print speeds. The only major differences were size (the iP100 being considerably smaller), and purchase/running cost (the iP100 being considerably more expensive on both). I bought the iP100 because of its tiny desktop footprint, and have not been disappointed. The photo printing quality is just superb. Canon claims it is "photo lab" quality given its 1 picolitre droplet size, and I can only endorse this claim. It's no slow-coach either on photo printing. This lens has caused a mild stir on the internet in the last few months. To my mind, it's the zoom equivalent of Canon's 50mm f1.8, in the sense that it's very cheap but performs very well. On an optical level it has no obvious deficits. Physically it is small and light, and the image stabilisation works well. As a package, at this price level, it's hard to resist if you want a cheap decent walkaround lens. The only obvious competition I can think of is the Sigma 18-50mm, but that doesn't have image stabilisation, and from what I have seen it's blurry around the edges; at the very least, it offers nothing over the Canon 18-55mm IS and it's no cheaper. My only complaint about this product is that it comes seperately. The case I bought was for the powershot G7, and I can't understand why these weights weren't included with or integrated into the case. For this I deduct one star. There are four seperate weight bars and only three are required for the G7. If you're thinking about not bothering to get these I'd like to endorse them fully. Not only do they adjust the case for neutral buoyancy but they keep the camera oriented correctly, which makes it much easier to compose and take a shot. I used the case and weights for both pool and sea shoots and apart from some slight condensation inside the case on one occasion in the pool the whole setup has been excellent. After several ... I think this is an excellent camera - at least judging by its description. I have had to send two of them back as the CMOS chip was damaged, and individual pixels were broken. Maybe this whole batch is faulty - definitely something Amazon should look into. I am trying again - third time lucky... :)

I bought this printer a couple of weeks ago, with some ink (ink was pricey, hence 4 stars). So far it has been great, it prints really quickly, although I only use it for lecture slides at the moment, have yet to print anything too colourful as I don't have the right paper for doing so! Hasn't thrown up any faults or anything, and the scanner is pretty good, done a few photo scans with it and they seem to come out well. Not bad value, there also seem to be plenty of features on it that I haven't got round to using yet! For the casual user, I'm sure it's perfectly good enough, I think a lot of bad reviews come from people trying to use a fairly low budget printer industrially, which they aren't designed ...
