Electronics : Canon EOS 400D Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)
I decided to get back into photography with an SLR, and did quite a lot of research. This lead me to buy this camera and lens (as well as a 18-55 & 70-300 zoom). This camera is a superb entry level camera, with preset picture style types such as portrait, landscape, sports etc. and a fully auto setting, so as easy to use as a point and shoot. For the more professional photographers amongst you, there are the manual setting options where you can adjust the ISO, aperture etc. and a fully manual option. A basic 18-55 lens will be fine when you are getting used to the camera, however the lenses will be the first thing you upgrade if you fall in love with photography! I recommend the USM IS range of lenses as reasonable priced good quality upgrades.

I got this camera for Christmas and loved everything about it...got some quality macro shots and fits in your pocket nicely so good to take everywhere.

Sadly after 6 months the dial wouldn't stick on video mode and amazon said they couldn't replace as they had none in stock (although it showed stock online just at twice the price) and couldn't repair it.

I now regret not taking it elsewhere to get it fixed as it is a great camera apart from that 1 issue...I'm now trying to find it for a reasonable price elsewhere.

I started a few years ago with the Canon XM1, and was taken with its simplicity of operation, and its outstanding results. When the XL1s came out I bought that too, based on my happy experiences with the XM1. Though I use the XL1s much of the time on production shoots, I have a new 'baby' with the XM2. This camera is a 'no nonsense' high performance tool with almost no vices. It is capable of doing about 95% of the work I do with the XL1s, and as a number 2 unit to my XL1s, it has relegated my old trusty XM1 to the 'back up box' (not that has since been needed). The XM2 has to be the best 'under £2000' camera buy I have ever made. The XM2 is noticably sharper, more stable and even easier to use than the XM1.
