11.TomTom Go 520 Traffic Edition from: TomTom

Electronics : TomTom Go 520 Traffic Edition

I've had the 520T for 6 months now. It was my first Sat Nav and I'm very pleased. The main device is very easy to use and has been genuinely helpful, even though I rarely drive long distance without a passenger. The plug-in traffic aerial only gives information on major roads like motorways and hasn't always been accurate, so next time I'd get just the 520 without Traffic (Tom Tom are bringing a new Traffic add-on to the UK next year, which promises to be much better, though more expensive).

I'd give the 520 itself five stars and the current Traffic aerial two stars, hence four overall.

I bought what I thought was a new s90i from amazon only to find it was a factory repacked version ---- it would have cost 20+pounds less direct from navman----as such it would not load any camera updates so it had to go back to navman for furher service before it would perform correctly. So buy elsewere if you plan to use all its functions ----otherwise its a great product when sorted.

Electronics : TomTom GO 720
I bought a TomTom 720 in March 2008 and totally regret doing so. Soon after purchase the device would occasionally turn itself off for no reason. These episodes got more regular until it eventually only stayed on for a few seconds.
I sent the unit back for repair, being told that it usually takes 5-7 working days to turn around. After some very expensive 'hold the line' phone calls to the elusive customer support and a 1 month wait (waiting for parts they said), I received the repaired unit back. They obviously are not competent in the repairs field, as the unit still does not work.
To make matters worse, as well as returning my device, they also sent me a repaired device belonging to another customer, which I now have to return. ... Read More:

As many of the other reviews say the 920T is feature rich and many of them work very well. The satellite lock on is excellent, I've used the Navigation very successfully in UK and USA cities. It has flaws though, the menus are clunky, I've never found how to set speed preferences and as with most Sat Navs it can bizarrely recommend local routes several miles longer than the ideal.

What really annoys me is it's advertised as covering Europe - it doesn't. Well not unless Europe has suddenly lost Greece. Tom Tom won't even sell you an add on map for Greece (it doesn't do Malta either). So if you're off to Greece and counting on a Tom Tom to help you navigate - right now best forget it.

Absolute rubbish. The suction did not work. The unit kept falling off. It simply did not stick.

Electronics : Garmin Nuvi 310 Satellite Navigation - UK Mapping + Bluetooth
Pros
* Long Battery life
* Has a Bluetooth connection, Audio book, MP3 and you can purchase add ons like the traffic management aerial/European maps and the maps and firmware are upgradeable.
* It has a detour button so if you suddenly find the road blocked it will navigate a different route

Cons
* The biggest problem for me is that it doesn't have a "direction arrow window" of the up coming turn, so you have to follow the white arrow (wherever it is on the map), my old Route 66 was so reliable it could guide me by the voice instructions alone, just glance down if I missed an instruction and check the handy direction arrow for next turn arrow in the left hand corner of the screen - not with Nuvi - I find I have to concentrate ... 17.Garmin StreetPilot C510 Touch Screen Navigation System With UK Mapping from: Garmin

Electronics : Garmin StreetPilot C510 Touch Screen Navigation System With UK Mapping
I bought this unit 3 weeks ago from Halfords for £99 and have used it almost everyday since. Its a very good example of using good technology to make a very user-friendly product. It was very easy to set-up straight out of the box and personalise after registering on the Garmin website.

Then Garmin sent me a map update CD which I connected to the unit via my laptop and let the CD installer do its job. In the middle of the update, the USB cable got disconnected and that was the start of a big problem. the unit froze up and when I restarted it, showed the Garmin GPS BSOD - 'No detailed mapping available. Your Streetpilot cannot function'. The computer would not longer recognise the unit as a peripheral. I tried myGarmin support but tthat takes forever ... Read More:

After much research on the web, including reading Amazon reviews, I opted for this unit against other contenders from Tom Tom and Navman. I have so far been extremely happy with it. I haven't experienced any slow start-ups as some have reported. Bluetooth works perfectly with a range of phones (probably because it's Parrot based). There is good support from Garmin and updating via the web is a breeze. You can also find things like free POI files on the web. The range of features is impressive, although the map isn't current with a local section of the A428 that has been turned into a dual-carriageway in the last year or two. It's useful to know that the unit comes with a protetcive case, the power-cable/traffic aerial, a windscreen swivel suction mount and a dashboard ... Read More:

i bought this from amazon after reading reviews and also the price was one of the cheapest when it arrived it was so easy to set up the bluetooth connection to my apple 3g iphone was superb the phonebook sync'd across no probs the actual quality of the maps and the routing has been fine on the several times i have used it one neat quirk is that you can download different vehicles from the garmin web site to have as your vehicle.overall this is a very good and useful sat nav for the money and is better than several of my friends who have tom toms it also picks up the satalites pretty quick also has life time sub's to traffic update again very good i rate it but we are all different hope you enjoy it if you buy it

Bought this unit before an RV holiday in the US - it really is invaluable abroad, especially in the US where most paper maps are not so good. It takes a huge amount of stress out of driving, primarily through a single feature - showing how far ahead your next turn is. This means you are not constantly looking out for that elusive road on the left - you can relax until you get very close to it, and then its usually obvious. Its quick to recalculate a route if you deviate from the chosen one, so it really doesn't matter even you miss a turn somewhere, it will always get you to your destination. We also found it really useful for finding restaurants and supermarkets nearby and on our route. A few minor flaws : 1) Our unit came with US traffic reports, but not UK ones. Garmin ... Read More:
