I did quite a bit of research as I have never owned a satnav before and chose this one as the best featured value for money. I was a bit put off by the very poor reviews above but went ahead anyway. That has proved to b a good decision.
I have been using this now for about a month in car and on foot in the UK (including pedestrian in London) and have just returned from my annual Le Mans 24 trip having used it to get to all of my hotels.
It can be fiddly inputting French addreses. The auto search facility and the POI locater works well here. It is very fast at recalculating the route if you go wrong or just deliberately ignore the prompts. Satellite acquisition is very quick if you switch on at the same location you switched off. ... Electronics : Garmin Nuvi 270 Satellite Navigation System With European & American Mapping
This is my second Garmin satnav. The Nuvi 270 performs very well around Ireland, with excellent satellite tracking. The tinny voice is a bit annoying but that's the price for such a neat & portable unit. It has a simulation mode for planning your journeys abroad, and it is excellent at handling Points of Interest (POI) files.

The options for finding your location are very good, and include the option of directly entering the GPS co-ordinates. I look forward to the day when your local Yellow Pages includes GPS for all commercial locations.

When using the various search options, the results are displayed in the order of proximity which makes it easy to find the nearest restaurant, bank, or petrol station etc. There's an excellent ... Read More:

Electronics : Navman F20 In Car GPS Satellite Navigation System With UK Mapping
As you can see from all the other reviews its a good bit of kit.

We have used the F20 for two years, with no problems. With so many new Sat Navs models to chose from,
you can get a big reduction's on the older F20
The good thing about the F20 it don't treat you like an idiot. In other words it one of the few user friendly
Sat Navs you can buy at a fair price.

35.PDA / Mobile windscreen & vent mount holder cradle from: Discount Satellite Navigation ltd

Electronics : PDA / Mobile windscreen & vent mount holder cradle
It's a good job there were two ways to fix the holder to your car, the clips to fix to the dashboard vents broke the first time I used them, they looked flimsy and indeed they were! The suction pad works great though, especially if you rest the holder on the top of the dashboard.

The adjustable holder means I can use my phone or Sat Nav which is handy!

Just bought this and have been truly impressed by its abilities. The navigation works well and all routes so far are exactly as I would have driven them, reroutes are processed quickly. The traffic information is also really useful and works well, though of course you must realise it works on a quiet fm frequency so it may not update immediately until in range. (see Traffic Master coverage. eg no use in Lake District).

I have even tested it flying back from Stockholm at 36000' in my A320, and although it could not follow the roads at 500mph (Europe main roads only) it did keep up with an accurate map, speed and altitude (in metres)!! So impessive my Dad immediately just bought one too.

I agree, it is not the same as OS mapping but that is because it is vector mapping not raster as used by the likes of Memory Map. I find it quite good enough to use for walking and easy to compare with the actual ground.

I find the best way to use is to preplan the route on a PC using either Memory Map or the TOPO and down load the route to the GPS unit. The routes are quite easy to follow but I always take a map as well (Memory Map).

At present, it is the only Topo mapping for the UK available for proper handheld GPS units such as the 60 CSX although Satmap is now around but seems to have teething problems and is very expensive for mapping.

At less than £100, the Garmin Topo is good value and worth having.

Electronics : C250 GPS (UK maps) (UK maps)
I received this item as an unexpected Christmas present last year, and I have to say its excellent.

Its very simple to operate using the touchscreen menus and setting a route can be done quickly and efficiently. The cockpit menu can be customised, I use it to display my current speed, miles left to destination and time to destination.

The directions are clear and precise, the maps easy to follow. The GPS signal is picked up quickly and is very consistent and accurate. The unit also has speed camera locations programmed into it.

It also acts as an MP3 player, there is a memory card slot on the side. This is a useful feature, although it cannot play at the same time as using the satnav function.

I have updated the operating system ... Read More:

Electronics : P560 (UK, GPS)
Had it about two weeks now and after initial teething problems that were mostly my own doing it works well. Mio Mapping V3 seems fine. Check out the spec as the one on Mio web site appears to be wrong; they do not include a uk mains adaptor and the head phone socket is 2.5 not 3.5mm. Make sure to use the dedicated USB cable to synchronize as my own would not work, probably not same connections. Get the mapping working before you load your own contacts and calendar as Mio wants to search for all your post codes. Managed to load Memory Map OS5 (Ordnance Survey 1:50k) with settings : Manufacturer NMEA Model NMEA 0183, RMC Port COM2: GPS_COM Baud 57600 I found these on Mio 560 Forum and they work but they do not seem to be the recommended settings. Wi-Fi works well but I have not ... Read More:
