This is the perfect camera for someone who likes to take photos but is not in it seriously enough to fork out big bucks. The photo quality is very good, even after a bit of cropping, its easy to use, sturdy yet small enough to fit in a pocket. Battery life is good but the flash and viewing photos and movies shortens this a fair bit. Overall very good value with the only negative point being the position of the mic - the natural position for holding the camera means your finger is over the mic holes.

I bought this camera 2 years ago as a complete photography novice. What attracted me to this camera was the amount of functionality compared to other cameras at the time in the same price range. The beauty of digital is being able to practice using manual settings for apertures and shutter speeds, experimenting with the colour modes etc. Maximum sized pictures of 1600 x 1200 pixels is more than good enough for a 10 x 8" printed photo. You'll definitely have to buy a bigger flash card as the 8MB supplied card holds 7 photos in superfine mode. Canon also refusing to repair faults like this within waranty and argue dust has caused it. There is a group in the US planning to take legal action against Canon on ther grounds of poor quality. I suggest you buy a different camera .

Almost all the reviews of cameras date from shortly after the camera was first produced, therefore there is nothing about the durability of a camera. Having used Canon SLRs all my life I was disappointed that when I switched from film in 2003 the Powershot A70 (which got great reviews) was not more solidly made and it has failed to pass the test of time. The shutter jammed twice, requiring it to be sent off for repair (about £70 per time). The camera produced quite good images but I found the shutter lag very slow and eventually it came to a sticky end when I fell into a newt pond a month ago. I dried out but the camera didn't. The new Canon A720 IS has been well reviewed but it appears to be an upgrade of the A70 series and I wonder whether that one will ... Read More:
