I am not a camera expert, more of an enthusiastic amateur, and I am sure that much more qualified people will, given time, publish reviews for Canon's latest UltraZoom. However, reviews are pretty scarce at the moment, so I will share with you my first thoughts on the SX10. The camera is neat, and sits comfortably in the hand. It is not as light as some, but exudes the impression of quality with a solid look and feel. For those who are familiar with Canon, the immediate impression is of familiar controls and menu options. For those new to the brand then I don't think that you will feel 'at sea'. I had read some comments that the instructions with the camera are not very good, but I would disagree. (I'm using my mum's account) The amount of times I've dropped this camera is ridiculous yet the camera has stayed together and still takes amazing pictures. The flash is a bit dodgy but pictures (especially ones taken outside) turn out really nicely and don't blur (I know this because me and my friends take pictures of us jumping on the trampoline mid air and it doesn't blur AT ALL!!) I've got this camera wet and sandy and have scraped it loads and it still works a treat. It looks great and takes fabulous pictures to treasure!

Got mine as an xmas gift as we were expecting our son at the time. rarely took photo's before but thought we would take loads once the baby was born, which we have. Love it. easy to use. lots of nice easy functions to takes more creative photo's if you fancy.

purchased this item from 'Camerabox'from the Amazon page, this has to be the best on-line sevice I have had. Ordered lunch time one day and in my hand before 10 a.m. the next.Things then got better as the 870is is a better camera than I was expecting, I did not look at the basic manual but after the 2hr battery charge thumbed my way around the well built gem and all the controls and operations of the camera fell in to place with such ease. The reason for my choice is that Canon cameras seem to do what they are supposed to do with good reliability and the 28mm wide angle of this model was of importance to me. Decided to upgrade my wonderful eod400d and lenses. After reading quite a lot about it, I had decided against the 450d and would go for the 40d instead. However, after reading about this camera, I could not resist..... it was quite a lot more, but decided that I could buy this one and not need another camera for many years. If you do not already have good lenses, the starter kit with the 17-85 USM IS lens, good value combination. Only disadvantages compared to a lesser lens and the 400d is the size and weight, however feels much more stable and well built. Now down the the picture quality...... all I can say is AMAZING! My previous camera, a Pentax Optio E10, was stolen when we were on holiday on the Costa del Sol in June, so once home and Insurance sorted I spent what seemed like hours and hours looking at digital cameras and the reviews submitted. I evenutally decided on the Canon Powershot A580 and I am really glad I did. Purchased online from Amazon.co.uk and delivered within two days along with a 2GB memory disk and carrier pouch. My main worry initially was the batteries. My first camera, a Nikon Coolpix 2100 was horrendous, good little camera but seemed to go through batteries(rechargeables) very very fast and was very frustrating. The other reviews accurately set out all the good points. I am balancing the scales with some of the problems I experienced with my Canon 5D which are replicated with the Canon 40D and why I sold my Canon and bought a Sony A700: 1. Weight - it is pretty heavy for a non-pro camera. With a decent lens this is not the sort of camera you will be grateful for carrying around all day in the tropics on holiday! The A700 is a couple of hundred grams lighter which makes a difference. 2. Ergonomics - this is a personal matter and for me very important. Most modern cameras are capable of taking a nice picture whether it's a Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus etc. It's how it feels in the hand and in use that really matters. I've had this camera for about 2 months now and have had no problems with it whatsoever. Really neat and affordable digital compact camera! Takes pristine and clear looking images which exceeded my expectations. All in all a great camera - would definitely recommend!

This isn't the slimmest or tiniest compact digital camera, but it's still easily pocketable (jacket, not shirt!) and for the price, produces great pics in a compact form. The screen is a good size and nice and bright and the extra bit on the zoom makes a difference - most of the competition stops at 3x. The colour choice allows a bit of personalisation. There are an amazing number of presets, but you won't need most of them, and the most important ones are the most accessible. Anyone unused to digital cameras or who is a bit of a technophobe upgrading might find the menus a bit of a fiddle, but for most purposes, they won't be used much.
