I paid Amazon £119.99 for this camera, with a Lowepro Ridge 20 case [worth £8.99] added "free" [it fits in ok] The 24 mm wide-angle lens is great - less distortion than expected and barely noticable vignetting in blue-sky pics. The organic LED screen is much brighter than a normal screen and the 2-year Samsung warranty is reassuring. Even though I've used fully-manual SLR's in the past, I've never attempted anything except "Auto" with a digital camera until this easy-to-use "Smart-Touch" interface. This camera does almost everything excellently. Image quality is excellent, and despite more noise than average, detail is very good. I have owned other Canon A series compacts, but in my opinion this one is a step backwards. Picture quality was as good as any other camera I have used recently, but I can't recommend it for the following reasons. Firstly it has a command dial on top, which was encouraging - but no manual setting on the dial. Secondly, build quality is not good - the plastic feels cheap and slippery, the reduced/smoothed hand grip doesn't help. Finally the screen is low resolution, now well behind the competition. There are lots of similar priced digicams out there with manual options, metal bodies and higher resolution screens. My advice is to look elsewhere.

I bought this last year and wish I hadn't. The pictures are terribly grainy and no amount of fiddling with the settings improves matters. Whatever you do, buy another camera.

Ricoh R8 is excellent if you are looking for a small size quality camera for its reasonable price(I know many professional use this camera for their alternative of SLR (or Ricoh GR, Leica etc). Photography novice like me can enjoy their easy to use functions, especially "macro" function (it also auto-focuses like good SLR). I have used this camera for over 6months but never had any problem.

Over the past two years I have used the high end compacts from Leica, Canon and Nikon. Up until recently I would have, and have said on here that Canon has the best compact in the G9 (soon to be replaced by the G10). Well Canon and Leica now have a real contender in the Nikon P6000. I have had this camera for 2 weeks and I am blown away by it. At the high end you do need to have a good knowledge to get the best out of the camera but once you have read the well presented manual - which is not on a disk as per Canon you really get to know how good this camera is.
